I recently read Matt Brolly's DCI Louise Blackwell and came away disappointed. However as Matt Brolly gets many good reviews I thought I would try another bok of his and homed in on this one. Ths is the worst edited Kindle book I have ever encountered. Besides some words being split over lines they are split over pages. Then at times there examples of very sloppy editing such as "So what do you what" and scrolling instead of scrawled, etc.

Matt Brolly seems to be obsessed with two areas; alcoholism and related children. In the DCI Blackwell series we had her brother Paul with his daughter Louise and here his friend Simon (who drunken state is described in detail repeatedly) and his dead daughter Chloe!

On to the story itself. The main character, DCI Lambert, seems more like James Bond character than a detective. One irritating feature is the inconsistent use of first and last names. This is made worse by the sheer number of characters; as the story develops it features three police forces and two murder threads. I ended up creating a board for the characters. The ending when it comes is fast and rather unbelievable.

I do not think I will read any more Matt Brolly novels as they feel like detective chick lit!

This is the first I have read by this author, and would definately read more. It was a page turner, and full of twists and turns.
At times it was slightly confusing with so many characters being introduced into the story. But it all made sense, and everything fell into place, as the story unfolded.
A bit gruesome occasionally, but the story was fast moving and events happening quite quickly throughout the book.
So I am off to find the next in the series, as this is another author to add to my 'must read' list.
Highly recommended.

I started reading DCI Lambert because I really like the Louise Blackwell series by the same author but I’m finding it really difficult to see this series as credible. It’s all a bit too like a spy novel for my liking. And are all the crimes going to be directed at Lambert ? I find the whole storyline implausible, how did he get compensation for the accident killing his daughter when it was clearly his fault? And how is he allowed to have a driving licence when he has blackouts? And how is it that A man blows his head off with a shotgun decorating the room with blood and matter yet dci lambert manages to check into a hotel to hide his gun and no mention of how he must be covered in blood and matter! Totally unbelievable! If I hadn’t already purchased 3 books I wouldn’t have bothered. Plus it’s a complete swizzle having the first 3 chapters of the next novel at the end. Waste of money in my humble opinion.

I really enjoyed this book. DCI Lambert has been signed off for over two years following a car accident in which his daughter died. His marriage is ruined and now his friend from Uni is receiving crime scene photos from the Souljacker. A serial killer who has been active for over 20 years!

This book is a great cat and mouse adventure, trying to figure out who could be next and why Lambert is involved. The characters are really great and the book is easy to read. There are a few typos in it though!!!

i liked the way this book finishes and an currently reading book 2!

Another protagonist to add to my favourite crime fighters list. Loved this book, the story has so many twists and turns I began to suspect almost every character in the book at certain points.
The main character DCI Michael Lambert is very easy to like, I found myself willing him to succeed even when everything seemed to be stacked against him and past work colleagues putting up block to keep him out, partly due to the fact he's been officially on sick leave due to a tragedy that happened in his personal life, some eighteen months earlier.
Don't want to give any of the story line away, accept to say if your into crime novels with great story lines and characters you can relate too then you'd be missing out on a great novel, if you miss reading it!
I immediately downloaded book 2 Dead Lucky after I'd finished this one, and hopefully there will be a book 3 in the not to distant future, read and enjoy!

This introduces DCI Lambert, an officer recovering from the trauma of losing his daughter in a car accident which he blames on himself. He becomes involved in the case of a serial killer nicknamed the Souljacker. Incident follows incident and the murders increase. Lambert is somewhat of a lone wolf acting outside the official investigation and ready to take risks. Eventually he comes face to face with the Souljacker in an explosive finish. DCI Lambert has the making of an exciting character we may wish to follow as it looks as a series could happen. Quite an introduction and would recommend.

I read a lot of this type of thriller book but must say this is one of the best I have ever read. Not just because of the story which is excellent but because of the way it is written - the words just literally flow and I found it hard to put it down each night! I usually guess the 'killer' but this time it was such a shock I was telling my family as if I was really there!! Can't wait to read the authors others books now.
