I was disappointed
Once you strip away the locale, you find yourself immersed in the story. Not a bad tale, but can we trust Sue Ellen? What about Bob? Can we trust him? Look out! Harold just walked in the room... he can't be trusted either!
So, once you strip away the constant paranoia, you're left with the mystery. A funky coin helps hopscotch the story down the road, a letter that doesn't say much, and some bumbling thieves who can't seem to get their hands on the clues so they could find the treasure themselves. In a way, I felt that Herbie the Love Bug was just waiting on the backside of the next cathedral to make his cameo appearance!
I read the whole thing just to see how it ended, but by the end, I felt happier to reach Santiago than most pilgrims that walk the actual Camino. Pass on this one and read real Camino memoirs instead.
