NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO jovia
With NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Jovia Manual your drink is ready in three steps.
  1. Pop in a pod
  2. Move the lever to hot or cold
  3. Stop the water when you're ready

The machine needs virtually no cleaning, however a wipe down of the machine and rinse of the capsule holder every few weeks is recommended.

Each pod is made differently for the perfect drink

What Makes the Pods so Smart?

Every pod contains specifically selected ingredients and different drinks need different amounts of pressure to release their full flavour. For example, an espresso needs high pressure to release that coffee aroma and taste and milk needs less. So the pods are designed to regulate the pressure so that whichever drink you choose, it's made just the way it should be.

A Nescafé coffee from a pod coffee machine is never going to give you anywhere near the same quality or taste as a proper barista-prepared coffee, but you already knew that. There is however a large range of specialty coffees available in the Nescafé Dolce Gusto range, and for the price, the Delonghi machine makes a surprisingly good coffee if you can find the right blend.

What is great about the Delonghi Dolce Gusto machine is that it makes it very easy to make a good coffee, doesn't take a lot of preparation and needs very little cleaning. The setting-up instructions included aren't the greatest, relying on images with no explanatory text, but the pictures are easy to follow and once you've 'prepped' the machine before first use, operation couldn't be much easier. Fill the tank with water, switch it on, wait 30 seconds for the green light, insert the pod and then let the water pressure push through coffee through. You have to manually control the flow of water rather than it being automatic - recommendations for measurements are given for each type of coffee - but this gives you the choice and flexibility to measure a strength that suits your taste.

You can only use Nescafé pods in the Delonghi Dolce Gusto Jovia, but there are around 28 varieties to choose from and, containing real ground arabica coffee, some of them are very good indeed. For a strong, well-flavoured espresso, I would recommend the Espresso Barista.

Bought it for my moms birthday, it was great, she loves it. doesnt take up a lot of space.

The coffee is boiling hot when its ready, and everything works well!

The colour is exactly like in picture and it simply is a great thing to have at home and make you great coffee!

Flavour quite good, but, alas, a machine that makes hot enough coffee for me proves elusive. I wish these machines would come with a thermostat so that the customer, rather than the manufacturer, can determine the coffee temperature... If you like relatively hot coffee, look elsewhere. The water flask is a bit fiddly to fill. Shame it doesn't come with a lift-up lid that one can simply fill from a jug in situi, instead of requiring removal. It's too small, not holding enough, so you'll be filling fairly often.

There must be better machines out there...

Overall this machine is affordable and a good introduction to coffee machines for new buyers.

Positives:
Easy to use, coffee pods are cheap and last, machine itself is of good quality, ability to make hot and cold drinks, nice packaging, reliable, quick to heat up (much quicker that a kettle), base is adjustable

Negatives:
Pods don't fill up a standard mug without watering down the flavour (i.e. they aren't enough), the milk pods are condensed milk (would rather use fresh milk of my own), the water tank can be a bit awkward to put in place in tight areas, not as strong as instant coffee

The alternatives available are probably worth a better shot. Pods are widely available for many variations of machines, and if I had known this, I would have invested the extra few ££ into a different machine. The main drawback for me is the pods - they simply aren't enough coffee, although for smaller 120mm cups, they do taste as nice as a Starbucks or Costa (for example).

We are not coffee pod novices. I have owned a Dolce Gusto machine for many years and its still going strong, but we also have a Tassimo machine. And by the time you have a microwave and those two machines, it doesn't leave a lot of room on my main worktop. (Very small sized kitchen) So I wanted to have a smaller machine because the children are not allowed the coffee anyway (not unless they buy it lol) so I don't need a large water tank and if I didn't use it every day then I would change the water anyway. (son is having the older doggy style machine so all is good)
Doing my research, I was amazed over some of the reviews. No its not an automatic machine as such, it requires a little effort to manually stop and start a lever. Unlike the Tassimo that does it for you.I know, its so harrrdddd. Use a smaller cup (we have two smaller size latte glass cups) and I go by the lines as to how much to fill (as in the full lines is a full cup) and that seems to work out nicely.
No its not coffee shop coffee. The machine doesn't cost £100s or grind fresh beans, but its better than instant even if a little dearer. And compared to some of the coffee I have had in coffee shops its better and cheaper.
It does leave some liquid in the pods (one reviewer was astounded over the fact someone asked that question) its just left over, watery milk or water. The older machines used to come with a container to put them in, but tbh I don't miss not having one as they had to be cleaned regularly. I just pop the cups into an empty cup until they cool, then cut the lid open, drain and put in the bin. No not environmently friendly, but we can't always do that. If that bothers you, take your travel mug into a coffee shop and get them to make you one.
If you have a Tassimo machine, its not the same coffee. That's why I like it. its nice to have variety. Plus you get a £10 voucher for the online shop and it doesn't matter if you are already registered unlike Tassimo.
