Superbly researched and detailed account of the account of the account of the British Army's fateful attack on Serre and Beaumont Hamel on the first day of the Somme offensive. It is well written and contains a treasure of personal insights into those who fought. This account follows on from the author's superb accounts of the costly and futile attacks of the British army on the same day on Gommecourt. I hope more accounts from the same author of the British army on the first day of the Somme battle follow.

Superb account, Thought his first two books could not be surpassed, but they have! A clear and precise account of that fateful and bloody day. A cast of higher ups who wouldn,t have disgraced Blackadder! Sadly a light hearted remark which when reading of the opening hours turns into a Tragedy unsurpassed. Buy this book, if you have not got the other two, then buy them!!
