I don't review books just occasionally have to say something about the ones I read. I enjoyed the earlier parts of this series and this one was a pretty good escapist romp. The part that reduces a possible five stars to three is the romantic relationship between the two main characters. This plays a much greater roll than the previous books and in my opinion is blown on one simple premise - a kiss in a quiet archive, no matter how passionate, cannot in any way be comparable in intensity and meaning to one shared in the midst of combat particularly when the participants have just committed themselves to what is in essence a suicide pact. ( It isn't but the characters don't know this at the time.) I know this is probably not relevant to most people but it rang my bell particularly as I otherwise enjoyed the book and the series

Being new to Steam Punk wasn't sure what to expect, so was really pleased when I read the first in the series " The Janus Affair ".
This standard has continued through the series and I love the way the feel of the actual period is combined with the Steam Punk.
This latest contribution is just brlliant, going to the ex-colonies (America), American Agents, Edison, Tesla, Dirigibles, just so much it's great.
In fact I feel it's Steam Punks answer to Marvel Agents of Shield and I hope some one takes it up to turn into a film.
Can't wait for the next instalment.

If you are new to the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences this is not the place to start - you will be missing out on the journey that has brought the main characters to this point. As someone who arrived late to steampunk these authors are at the top of this genre - strong characters, interesting plots set in a vividly described world. There is a gradually evolving wider plot emerging running behind the plot of each novel and I am hooked to see where this will go and the next stage in the relationship between the two main characters as it continues to develop and deepen. I hope I don't have to wait too long to return to the company of Welly and Eliza, and my message to the authors is simply 'You keep writing them, I will keep reading them!' Join me - you won't be disappointed.

I haven't personally read this book. It was a gift for my daughter, whom is a steam punk fanatic. She is also quite particular about that sort of thing and she has told me the book was a very good read. Then again it was a gift, so she may just have been being polite, Hope that helps.

Let down by bad editing.

Damn Amazon and their stupid twenty word requirement for book reviews. I said enough in 5 words!
