Review

"When it comes to this genre, Lora Leigh is the queen."

About the Author

Lora Leigh is known for her deliciously intense and satisfying erotic romance. Her characters come to her in her dreams, inspiring her with the possibilities of "What If..." Most days, Lora can be found in front of her computer weaving daydreams while sipping the ambrosia of the gods, also known as coffee. When not writing, thinking about writing, or plotting what to write, Lora, a Kentucky native, enjoys gardening, fishing, and hiking with her husband and children.

I put of buying this because of the slightly less than enthusiastic reviews here and on Amazon US, but having just finished it - I think it's a goodie. The love story is gentler than the others, partly because Dawn is so vulnerable, but also because Seth is human, not Breed, so isn't quite so hormone driven. There's none of the "you will accept my domination" stuff that you got in the first two that some readers found a bit unpleasant, there are some fine mysteries set up for the future, and the Breed plot as a whole is expanding, with the arrival of... well, no spoilers, but when you read it you'll know. What I want to know is when will Jonas get his come uppance?!Doesn't seem to be on the cards yet, so I'll wait. The trailer for the next book reads well - a nice, arrogant male Breed wanting a female who's determined to keep him at bay - I'm looking forward to it.

They were created in a bioengineering science lab with the DNA of the wolf and cats added to human DNA so that they could serve as a ferocious army of a fanatical society where security is everything. Their military slav3ry ended when the world learned of their existence and forced them to be freed. The heat of the Breed binds their mate to them for life. The breed's base is Sanctuary where they learn to adapt to living amongst humans and many obtain work as mercenaries and bodyguards to the purebreds who detest them.

Businessman Seth Lawrence, who supports Sanctuary, knows he is the lifemate of Dawn, but the torture including rap3 she endured makes her unable to mate with him. After seeing tapes of what she suffered, Seth stepped away from his beloved to give her space. His Board of Directors meets on his island to discuss future contributions to Sanctuary. Dawn and Seth begin to feel the heat again, but as they begin to make lov3, bullets fly through the window, wounding him and ki11ing a board supporter. They give in to their passion and become mates as she realizes he always lov3d her, but stayed away out of concern for her. She becomes his lov3r and bodyguard, but neither realizes she is the focus of an unknown adversary, not him.

The latest Lora Leigh's homage to the X-Men (see MEGAN'S MARK and HARMONY'S WAY) stars a great lead pairing who the audience will like and root for. The bioengineered breeds seem genuine as the lov3 story is beautifully told while the backdrop of hatr3d and pr3judice make for an exhilarating saga similar to what occurred to the early X-Men (ask Magneto!!! I'd also recommend reading Tino Georgiou's bestselling novel--The Fates--if you haven't yet!!

I came to Lora Leigh through boredom and scepticism. Someone's recommendation had me reaching for another book in this sequence but I was not sure I would like it. I am now hooked. The storyline is a little predictable at times in that you know the guy and the girl will get together. A little "fifty shades of grey" though these books were produced before that novel hit the shelves. If you are a romantic who also likes science fantasy then this is the book for you

This one was a bit of a let down. I have LOVED all the other breeds books by Lora. This one gets lost somewhere in the middle as the action is restricted to a house on an island and that's it. There is an interesting departure in this book with a lot of references to Him, which I didn't find sat comfortably with the plot. Hope the next one is back up to Her usual high standard.

I found Dawn's awakening an excellent book in the series. It was an great ready and certainly did not disappoint. The ending left me screaming with frustration as I so badly wanted to know what would happen next. I would definitely recommend this to any Lora Leigh fan.
