Product Description

Product Description

Digitally remastered and expanded edition of the late Soul great's unreleased 1971album (which finally did see limited release in 2004). David Unreleased LP & More includes the 12 tracks originally scheduled for release in 1971 as LP Motown 733, plus seven amazing bonus tracks from the album sessions and four mono single mixes. It's the great David Ruffin and Motown's Funk Bothers band, directed by several of the company's best producers including Smokey Robinson, Johnny Bristol, Henry Cosby, Clay McMurray and Ivy Jo Hunter. Ruffin, former lead singer of the Temptations, had started his solo career with a bang, as his 1969 album and single, My Whole World Ended, were smash hits. At age 28, entering his prime, he cut his third album while also recording duet tracks with his brother, Jimmy. David watched as the duet album, Jimmy's solo album and the solo debut from Eddie Kendricks, another former Temptations lead singer, were all released.

I was really pleased when they rereleased this from 2004 as it was a limited edition and I missed it. From the opening lines of Track 1 to the end of track 23 it is marvellous. I cannot rate this highly enough. Fantastic Backings from The Funk Brothers , The Andantes and The originals. How motown did not release this in the 70s is hard to believe. Just listen to his versionS of I Want you back and Heaven help us all to see the magic he brings to other peoples hits.

Amazing album this!-originally planned to have been his third LP for release in 1971,before being shelved at the last minute and all of the recordings consigned to the Motown vaults(not seeing the light of day till 2004).This is David at the PEAK of his powers-the vocals and music comming together perfectly. This CD contains the original album plus several more bonus tracks too and also a detailed booklet covering the history of these recordings etc.Well recommended release this one and a big thankyou to Hip-O-Select for making it possible.

Wow... WHAT AN ALBUM. David Ruffin is absolutely INCREDIBLE here. It's really hard to believe that the album remained in the vaults until Hip - O Select decided to remaster it and release it ( and rerelease it in 2012 (thanks for that Hip - O )) in 2004. Buy this album - IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!

The late David Ruffin is in a class of his own and this recording underlines so much what a loss he was to soul music. Frankly, in my opinion his "Rainy Night in Georgia" is the best version of this great song and the CD is worth buying just for that. What a great shame David was his own worst enemy that cut his career so short, both as lead singer with The Temptations and as a solo artist. Had it been otherwise, he would have easily eclipsed his brother Jimmy

This is David Ruffin at his best. How Berry Gordy could have put this on the shelf to gather dust is a mystery. This is a must for any Motown fan who still appreciates the Detroit sound created by the Funk Brothers before Gordy shut up shop and moved to the west coast.

Just like the liner notes say "David Ruffin ranks with....Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and Al Green among the greatest soul singers". Everyone of them one of my heroes and this album confirms that David was right up there with the very best. What a voice and what a performance! From scorching ballads to tender love songs to the zinging Northern Soul of You Can Come Right Back To Me every track's a winner. Tremendous.

This album is very near to David Ruffin at his very best. I have had it on replay in my car for the past two weeks. David is my favourite artist and the Temptations were never the same after he left . My favourite David Ruffin song ( not on this album) is One more hurt.
I would urge any fan to buy this album..

This compilation demonstrates in abundance the powerfull command of David's soulfull, vocal range. Motown, this should have been issued years ago!
