David Spaven has spent his working life in and around the railway industry, and is now both a rail consultant and a railway author. His first book - the highly-acclaimed 'Mapping the Railways' - was written jointly with Julian Holland and was published by Times Books / HarperCollins in 2011.
A geographer by training and a rail enthusiast for most of his life, David's 'Waverley Route: the life, death & rebirth of the Borders Railway' - was published in August 2012 by Argyll Publishing.
David's third book - in conjunction with Julian Holland - is 'Britain's Scenic Railways', published by Times Books / HarperCollins in September 2012. David has appeared many times on radio and TV, and also writes on railway topics for newspapers and magazines.
His consultancy, Deltix Transport Consulting, recently produced the 'On Track for Business' report for Transform Scotland (the sustainable transport alliance), setting out the benefits to business travellers of using the train rather than the plane from Edinburgh to London.
