Product Description

Review

Glimpse into a weird and wonderful mind.....photographic insight into the directors creative vision. --Irish Tatler, February 2014

In The Factory Photos, the machinery and manufacturing plants are pushed into centre stage, much of it looking quaintly old-fashioned....with traditional manufacturing in terminal decline, Lynch's beautiful photos could, one day, be all we have left of Britain's industrial past. --Daily Mail Online

...Lynch's photographs....are in fact rather classical...perhaps inevitable that they are intensely cinematic. --Telegraph, 16 January 2014

HASH(0x8dd02b10) out of 5 stars Beautiful Industrial Images 25 Jan. 2014

If you are a fan of David Lynch films then you will feel right at home with this collection of black and white photographs of industrial factories. Visually some of the images will remind you of his early films like Eraserhead and Elephant Man. The book begins with a very brief q&a with Lynch followed by a short overview of his career. There are quite a few photographs here and they are reproduced well on a nice matte finish paper. If there's one negative it's that all of the images are horizontal landscape format but the book itself is vertical. It seems the photos would have been better served if the book format was horizontal as well. The cover is a nice fabric material with a an image printed directly on the cloth. If you love Lynch then I don't think you'll need much convincing to buy this book. Highly recommended.

Worth it for the interview alone- sparkling bits of insight into the mind of one of the great artists of our time. Before reading on, as Lynch himself might say, think about looking at the photos first for yourself before letting my opinions and ramblings affect your first impression.

The factory photographs themselves are haunting and gritty b&w, I wanna say like sally mann mixed with daido moriyama but without the definitive styling so that the photos read almost like a dream sequence. Not better or worse, just Lynchian. One of the many things that amazes me about this man is that the works he gives us tend to feel dark and almost nightmarish (and often humorous), yet Lynch himself is gentle, hilarious, and one of the more optimistic humans haunting earth, from what I've read. I couldn't live without this book in my library.
