Dave Cryer runs workshops across the UK to promote reading and writing for pleasure, regularly visiting both primary and secondary schools. He also inspires librarians and teachers on courses and at conferences.
He is currently Patron of Reading at Ripon Grammar School and Writer in Residence at four secondary schools: Cockermouth School, Cumbria; Grange Technology College, Bradford; Canon Slade School, Bolton; Fernhill School, Farnborough.
His co-authorship with Jane Morgan of Hodder's Stage 5 English literacy title is his first book by a major publisher. His other work currently resides mostly in independently published anthologies, but he is actively looking for an agent or publisher to take on his fiction work - novels, short stories, poetry, plays.
In his home town of Keswick - when he's not travelling the country to work in schools - he can also be found working behind the bar at Theatre by the Lake, behind the counter at Bookends and behind the microphone at Stuart Sidney's Open Mic night at Bar 26 on Wednesdays reading the odd ( or very odd ) poem in between the musicians. He is also a volunteer at Theatre by the Lake and for the National Trust.
Originally from Newbury, Dave worked as a teacher of English & Drama for 16 years in Yorkshire schools before settling in the Lake District.
