Every time I read a book by this author I feel that it's her best yet and A Daughter's Courage is no different. From the very first page I was swept away to 1920's India to follow the fate of 'devadasi' Gowri. The chapters alternated with present day moments and to strong, independent women facing today's problems. Immediately I wanted to know how these women were connected. This stunning book has given me characters that will stay with me for a very long time and I'm still thinking about the stories and journeys this morning after finishing the book last night. I am not ashamed to admit that this author has the ability to inspire such emotion in me for her expertly drawn characters that I rarely finish without an eye malfunction of some kind. The imagery and narrative is as stunning and captivating as ever and I now have a total book hangover. If you haven't read one of Renita's books yet you are definitely missing out.

A Daughters Corage - this is the first book I have read about Indian culture, and a first by Renita D'Silva. I was absolutely engrossed in the story, which is so well written, I looked up on the internet different foods or things that Renita described , as I wanted to know what they were. Renita this is a wonderful book, although to,d over three different times, it was very easy to follow. I cannot recommend this book enough. Thank you Renita for giving me hours of enjoyment . I have already downloaded A Sister's Promise and will now look at A Mother's Secret.

I loved the way this story is told from three different perspectives. It keeps you guessing as to the link of the people involved. The author tells the story with such detail that you actually feel like you are there! I read the book in 2 days and loved the way it came together. This is the second book by Renita D'Silva I have read and her attention to detail is amazing.

Renita d'Silva's spellbinding story of love and sacrifice will transport you to India with its rich tapestry of colours, sounds and scents. The novel is told through the eyes of several characters whose lives are inextricably linked across the generations. d'Silva is a writer of extraordinary ability who covers difficult topics such as the abuse of young women in India known as 'devadasis' and yet brings such humanity to her characters that you are desperate to know how the story will end and whether the characters survive, or win through in the end. I loved her lyrical descriptions of the cottage at the edge of the jungle, the prowling tiger, the flea-bitten dog; and the fabulous food - that is a running theme through all her novels. She writes beautifully of love, loss, the sweet intimacy of family and loneliness. A talented author.

A wonderful novel telling the story of four women, two from the past and two from the present and how their lives intertwine. Set mostly in India and to a lesser extent in the UK. A story full of love, pain and heartbreak but ultimately happiness. A most enjoyable read!

This book transported me to another time...the detailed descriptions were amazing and the narrative written as though I was watching the real lives of the characters in the flesh. Such a great book...I shall be reading many more books by Renita, a great talent.
