To this ex-train-spotter of the 1950s and 60s, with many (yes indeed, now fading!) memories, this delightful publication with its many black-and-white photographs - closely covering what was once known as the BR Teesside Traffic Area - was bang-on. Shots of locations such as Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland and Shildon (untimely losses of once-important steam-hauled freight services and the complex track layouts) were especially nostalgic, since my old man when a relief clerk and later station-/yard- master often took me with him there on those long-gone weekends and school holidays. I was also on some of those "last trains". Interesting and well-written text. Certainly one of the best-ever covering this locality.
