Customers have different views on the compost aeration. Some find it efficient and ideal for a compost heap, as it mices the compost around and allows airflow. Others say it not only aerates the compost but also mixes the old and new together, squashing it down. The prongs are too long and catch in the compost making it difficult to pull.

"...We were able to compost much faster as this tool is perfect to mice the compost around, thus allowing airflow." Read more
Customers find the compost bin handle too short and not sturdy enough to turn the compost. They say the prongs are too long and catch in the compost, making it difficult to pull. The handle should be longer to reach very far down in full compost bins.
"...It works fine in my large plastic compost bin too, though the handle only just fits in...." Read more
"...The old one rusted away after many years outside. The T-handle is very slightly too wide to go easily into the open top of a compost bin...." Read more

"...Was able to sink tool right into the bottom of the compost, handles a bit less wide than the neck of my compost bin. Excellent so far." Read more
Customers have issues with the compost bin's wing opening. The side wings rarely open up to reach the bottom, and the end pieces don't seem to open out when lifting it up again. The blades don't open until the tool is deep in the compost, making it useless for breaking it up.
"...When you pull it upwards, the arms don't always pull open, so you don't actually catch much of the lower compost layers to bring upwards...." Read more
"Doesn't open up and doesn't reach the bottom of the standard sized compost bins...." Read more
"Easy to use but the "wings" do not open up when dug into a compost. Hence not really lifting anything up." Read more
"...However one or the other of the folding wings don’t open up when pulling it out...." Read more

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 July 2024I’m quite impressed with this simple but effective aerator. There isn’t much that can go wrong with this piece of kit and it looks sturdy enough to see a few seasons out. My compost bins (330 ltr) were full when I used it and it did take a bit of muscle to push it through to the bottom of the bin... and out again, that being said, with a less full bin, I can see the task being a lot easier.
Very pleased with this purchase.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2020Easy to put together - just the T handle to fix together with a couple of provided nuts and bolts. It's easy to use if you are quite strong - the forks do grab hold of quite a lot of material which needs to be pulled through the compost to the top before it will let go. I made the mistake of putting a lot of twiggy branches in the bottom of my compost heap (as recommended in a book) and the aerator grabs them and they have to be pulled right through to remove them - don't make the same mistake when starting your heap! It works fine in my large plastic compost bin too, though the handle only just fits in. It not only aerates the compost but really mixes the old and new together, along with the worms and bugs that actually turn the waste into garden compost. I wish I'd bough it a few years ago!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2024This was easy enough to put together, but it's pretty useless. As you push it down into the compost, it squashes the compost down. When you pull it upwards, the arms don't always pull open, so you don't actually catch much of the lower compost layers to bring upwards. Waste of money.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2020I bought this 'Darlac DP788 Compost Aerator' for my husband for Christmas. He has an allotment with three big compost bins made out of old pallets. He asked for an aerator as it is a hard job to turn the compost easily with just a fork. It was easy to assemble and he tried it out for the first time yesterday. Apparently it worked a treat and made light work of turning the compost. Straight in, pull slightly so that the blades go out to right angles, twist and pull to turn it all the compost around. Nice and strong and works well. Fair price at £19.35
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 January 2024Brought this to turn the compost heap, received it all good, but then realised that there was nothing to allow me to assemble the product. I tried to communicate with the manufacturer (as advised by Amazon) but they didn't offer any help, it could have saved plenty of CO2 emissions just sending out a pack of bolts, rather than returning one and shipping another. Hence the low score. Amazon kindly sent out a replacement, and on comparing the two items side by side there was clearly never any bolts attached to the original (they were stapled in a pack to the replacements cover, but no holes were present to show staples ever being used on the original item) Otherwise it's fine and does the job, just poor communication/product checking/customer service from the manufacturers.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2024Used it straight away and what a brilliant piece of kit. It does the job and saves me from using a fork. Buy it and you won't regret it
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 September 2024Doesn't open up and doesn't reach the bottom of the standard sized compost bins. If you're only half full and you keep using it from the off it might work for a bit but otherwise don't bother.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 May 2024Bought this for his compost heap and it works very well. would highly recommend this brand if anyone is looking for a turner for compost heap. Bought it based on the other reviews and the price was good.

RJReviewed in Germany on 30 January 20225.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for aerating compost
I only have a smallish compost bin, 100 ltrs or so and this device helps me to aerate it well. It could be sturdier but at this price point it's good value. Don't get me wrong though, it is sturdy enough to get the job done.

juan muñozReviewed in Spain on 26 November 20195.0 out of 5 stars muy buen producto
es muy simple, pero muy efectivo, se clava muy bien sin hacer mucha fuerza, y se tira para arriba moviendo todo el compo, para que se mezcle bien, y fuerte, no creo que se rompa facilmente, muy buen producto como e dicho. un 10

MagdaReviewed in Spain on 6 September 20194.0 out of 5 stars Facilidad para hacer compost
