I was getting to old and new point and click games latelyand stumbled upon this while browsing through them on amazon, and when I found out it was a Lovecraftian horror-based one I just had to buy it...and have not been disappointed! This is more than just Lovecraft-inspired, it really does the source material justice and captures the settings, mood and mythos of Lovecraft perfectly, even though it is not a direct adaptation of anything in particular...

The first game I can not fault really - excellent graphics, engaging, addictive gameplay, excellent atmosphere and soundtrack (I guess the makers/composers being Turkish enhances the 'exotic'/Eastern parts of the soundtrack), the dream sequences are brilliant...what more can I say? Only problems I had with it really are the pretty rubbish voice acting (understandable with an independent and foreign-made game) and the videos, which were strangely of lower quality than the in game graphics and were occasionally lagging...

The second game follows on straight from where the first left off, and adds some interesting new features, notably the moving first person gameplay as opposed to the Myst style navigation of the first...which was nice, but unfortunately it can really lag sometimes, not enough to be the game significantly less enjoyable though...There is also more interaction with characters in this game (in a typically Lovecraftian shifty grim town 'Arkhamed')...like the first this generally scared and creeped me out at times, has a mood similar to the silent hill games at times...

This collector's edition comes with the excellent soundtrack and a poster, so it's a no-brainer really...

I had never heard of this game but it came up recently on my Amazon recommendations, and on the strength of the reviews here and my constant desire for a Lovecraftian detective game, I bought it immediately.
Although the game is undeniably atmospheric, it does approach the spookinees of Silent Hills, with a few good jump scares, it must say: it is almost unplayable.
I don't mind that the graphics aren't top notch - although it is a bit queer that the animations are notably worse than the game graphics. I don't even mind that despite the number of mirrors that are dotted about the environment, my reflection doesn't show, o-my-giddy-aunt! I'm playing a vampire?!? No.
But what I do mind, and what meant that after 45 minutes of gameplay I am giving up to never come back, are two things: the controls and game engine are remarkable clumsy and counter-intuitive, and the storyline is very rigid and equally counter-intuitive.
A number of clues are found in seemingly arbitrary quotes from one of the many books that lying about in drawers; presumably the developers expect me to read pages and pages of horrendous poetry and properly decipher them. I could go on about the need to physically underline certain passages and then "combine" them with other passages to come up with a new "clue" that is equally un-illuminating; suffice to say, the game engine and "puzzles" are frustratingly baffling - and not in a non-Euclidean madness kind of baffling, they're just badly thought out.
Likewsie, considering that it is a first person game, I had actually no idea what my character was supposed to be doing; on the first day I thought I was a detective, on the second day I found out I had been suspended some time ago...

Two good games of decent length and difficulty. I played on windows 8 and had no trouble with either game loading from disc. A little long on the reading and short on actual action for my liking and very linear. I got it at a bargain price so am not complaining but I would have been disappointed if I had paid good money.

Not a bad game overall, though the hint system is vital to get you through the idiosyncratic way objects and ideas are combined to solve puzzles.

The game would get another star if the 2nd game, Dark Lineage, allowed use of mouse controls instead of insisting on using the keyboard, which I frankly find so much of a pain I've not got out of the opening scene yet

I have given a 4star because the activation code did not work, but the seller was very prompt in giving me a refund which included P/P, if the code had worked it would have been 5 star
