Product Description

‘Like being French kissed by a concrete slab and hugged by a gorilla on crack’ – Metal Hammer August 05

Along with releases from Bullet for my Valentine, Days of Worth and Fireapple Red, Visible Noise are pleased to announce the further capture of another of the UK’s finest new acts in 2005, Devil Sold His Soul, and the mini album ‘Darkness Prevails’, released on the 1st August.

Comprising ex members of the awesome Mahumodo, Devil Sold His Soul is the phoenix rising from the ashes, and it’s a name you’ll be hearing a lot this year. An epic mixture of ferocious power, bone crunching heaviness and soaring melodies, ‘Darkness Prevails’ delivers a truly astounding musical smack in the chops!

Devil Sold His Soul is the sound of a group of amazing musicians, freed from past constraints to create something truly special; it’s the sound of brilliant potential fully realised. The Mahumodo power and feeling remain, but now broader ideas, a wider spectrum, more experimentation, have been introduced. This band takes as starting points the cerebral structures of Tool, the fearsome musical musculature of Will Haven and the sweeping emotion of Deftones. The band is also easily comparable in scope, sound and progressive power to epic, wide screen visionaries such as Isis and Cult of Luna.

Review

'Big, structured, heavy songs that growl and screech mercilessly before soaring into the heavens, taking your concious with em..' 8/10 -- Rock Sound August 05

‘Absolutely mind blowing….expect big things from Devil Sold His Soul’ – 5/5 mini album review -- Big Cheese August 05

‘Darkness Prevails’ is a mesmerizing soundtrack to the most unsettling film never made. ….An essential purchase’ 4kkkk's -- Kerrang August 05

‘Darkness Prevails’ is fascinating, charismatic, taking the whole concept of structured noise deeper and deeper into the twilight zone’ -- Metal Hammer August 05

I stumbled across this band by hearing 'like it's your last' on a sampler cd a few month's ago and after buying this mini album found myself completely captivated by them. There are dark and uplifting elements to the record in equal measures and what really appeals to me is the powerful and metallic sheen of their sound. 'LIYL' - an instrumental version of 'Like it's Your Last' is quite beautiful and opener 'Darkness Prevails' is powerful and almost hypnotic. The singing/screaming aspect of their sound does not put them into the same category of other bands who've done it all before, too many times; DSHS sound fresh and exciting and for the price of the cd should be welcomed into your stereo. 5/5 without question.

devil sold his soul have released a stunning debut ep here, there are 5 songs here, one is an instrumental that doesnt add or take away from the albums glory, the band are clearly influenced by neurosis, cult of luna, isis but yet are different from them all as well, melody and horror are two key aspects of the band, the vocals one minute could be that of classic black metal and the next they are as clean as a whistle and if you dont get shivers ripping your spine to pieces during the musical outro of the final song like its your last then dear reader there is something wrong with you, like i implied the vocals can be harsh screams but they dont linger for long, devil sold his soul want to take you on a journey of emotions and sounds, they are intelligent and focused in bringing such traits to their sound, the future is very bright for these kickstarts, join them now and save face for when they make it big!

Excellent new art/melodic/metal CD (EP!) from a band who presumably have something to say about Daylight Dies (Darkness Prevails - get it ?)
Play it a few times and the samey (but not boring) riffs get stuck under your skin - but in a good way. Keep an eye on this lot...
