There are no words. I have been on a journey of epic proportions!

J.T. Geissinger has made me weep with tears of joy, sorrow and hope for her creations. In the 5th book of the series, we catch up with Hawk who was previously mentioned in 'Edge of Oblivion'. As the half brother of Xander (mated to the Feisty Morgan), Hawk is content to be a loner with no real place to belong to apart from his home in the jungle.

After a pulitzer nominated piece of writing by Jacqueline 'Jack' Dolan sends congress to war with the Ikati, Hawk is ordered to seduce and destroy her. Only things don't turn out that easy when he realises that Jack is more than just words on a piece of paper, she challenges him and she completes him - she understands his loneliness but also accepts him. Hawk is more than happy to be away from Jack but Morgan gets a bright idea to bring Jack to the jungle in the hopes she'll rethink her stance and write the truth about the mostly peaceful Ikati tribes that still exist. It can't get any worse right?!

All our previous characters are there, Jenna, Leander, Christian (briefly)...but the growing threat that has been coming since book one is almost at the doorstep now. Caesar is on his way to fight/kill Jenna and the Expurgati have teamed up with the Vatican to destroy anything that is an "abomination". It seems like we are finally on the brink of war when even more questions are thrown into the mix regarding Jenna's twin daughters.

The writing captured my mind, I wish I could go to Brazil right now and spend a week in a hammock, just watch nature be nature - without any human interruptions. I love that Hawk was honest with Jenna but that he respected her and her outspoken mind.

I enjoyed this 5th book in the series. The chemistry between Jack and Hawk was interesting. It could be read as a free standing story but perhaps less so than earlier ones in the series.
I couldn't work out how they got all the "stuff" into the jungle hideaway when it was several days walk to the nearest road/river or how they travelled from New York to Brazil in a small boat in just 3 days; clearly the story line didn't quite convince me to suspend all belief and my ever practical side lurked there in the background.
The end made up for many of those little niggles.

Absolutely loved this book! It's the penultimate book in the series which is kinda sad cause I don't want the series to end! In the previous books we've been to the English colony and the Rome colony as well as a couple of places in between but this book takes the story to the Brazilian colony and I loved seeing how different they were to the English and Rome colonies. They're more isolated and so seem to be even deeper into the old ways and old rituals that the other colonies no longer celebrate.

I loved the characters of Hawk and Jack and seeing them progress from enemies to friends to lovers on their journey. Jack always prided herself on her open-mindedness and not being a racist like her father but she was blind to her own bigotry until it was pointed out by Hawk and further emphasized during her time with the colony.

In particular the events at the Punishment Tree presented a poignant and beautiful scene in my opinion. I won't say what happened as it's a moment that each reader needs to experience for themselves but it is one of the scenes in the book that profoundly touched me and the scene of Jack's first heartfelt soul deep epiphany that significantly changes her opinion towards the Ikati people.

I also loved her speech near the end. She and Hawk were a perfect match and really brought each other to life and healed each other in ways no-one else has ever been able to. I also love Hawk's Gift, one he shares only with Jack that no-one else knows about and is one that has never been heard of before in Ikati history!

DARKNESS BOUND is the fifth and second to last instalment in J.T. Geissinger’s contemporary, adult Night Prowler paranormal /UF series focusing on a supernatural species of panther shifters known as the Ikati. Facing off against a multitude of enemies, the Ikati must endure bigotry, specieism and discrimination at the hands of the frightened human population as well as one of their own. This is Ikati panther Hawk Luna, and reporter (and human) Jacqueline Dolan’s storyline.

Told from several distinct close third person POVs, the storyline focuses on Jacqueline’s (aka Jack) hatred of all things Ikati. Having written a Pulitzer Prize nominated article denouncing the panther shifter species, Jack will find herself the target of the very group she has destroyed in the eyes of public opinion. Hoping to make Jack see the error of her ways, the Ikati tribe (of Brazil) commission Hawk Luna to bring Jacqueline to her knees. What know one had expected was for Hawk to lose his heart to the woman who was hell bent on the destruction of his kind.

The relationship between Hawk and Jacqueline is combative, aggressive and at times bordering the edge of insanity. Their attraction to one another is instant; the sex is passionate and yet Hawk knows this is the woman who has placed a very large target on all of the Ikati around the world. When the entire Ikati species is threatened by one of their own, Jacqueline’s purpose is forgotten when everyone’s safety is placed in the hands of two small shifters whose powers have yet to be seen.

DARKNESS BOUND focuses on three intersecting storylines that will merge in the rainforests of Brazil where a power so strong will be unleashed against those trying to destroy the Ikati race.
