Epic, romantic and full of adventure!

If you are looking for an incredible series to try, you have to check this one out! I adored the first book, Dark Shores, but this sequel was everything I loved about the first book and more! The author continues to create an incredible world – one that is not limited to one territory. It felt like a whole new story, despite the book running parallel to the events in Dark Shores, and set in the same world. It is so clever how in-depth the world building is and how this helps the reader to immerse themselves in the story. Lydia is a wonderful character and I love how she continues to fight despite the odds stacked against her. Killian is another incredible book-boyfriend (the book club will be fighting over him and Marcus!). The fight scenes are just as epic as the first book, with these scenes almost jumping off the pages to life as you read on. There are surprising enemies and old foes to battle, and I cannot wait for another book in the series! Also, how incredible and explosive will it be when Marcus & Teriana (from the first book) and Lydia & Killian meet!? There are so many brilliant things to come in this series.

I love this author!!! This is the second book in the Dark Shores series and we follow two different characters in the same timeline as the first. In the first book I really thought there was more to Lydia than we were told, and this book is everything I wanted!

This book is so all encompassing, each chapter ends on a cliff hangar that leave you needing to read that little bit more! This author is a master at building up worlds and I am obsessed!

Bring on book 3 Gilded Serpent! 😍

I enjoyed this, but I have to admit I enjoyed the first book Dark Shores more. That’s not to say I didn’t love this, but I just didn’t like Lydia as much as I loved Teriana and Marcus more, I was neveras keen on Lydia as much so I’m biased I think. But I still really enjoyed this, I can’t wait to see what happens to these (and all the other) characters in the next book to tie everything together. I loved Killian and I think the slow burn between him and Lydia swung it around for me. It’s a great read, I just liked Dark Shores a bit more.

Incredible World Building

Jensen is a master of world building - the battles in particular being so vivid you feel like you're there! However, I found Lydia's side of the story to be painfully slow at the beginning, and it took a great deal of build up to for the book to get more interesting.

The relationships between the two main characters felt a bit forced, but I loved the familial relationships that were presented throughout. I haven't read Dark Shores, but I don't think that really had an impact on my enjoyment of Dark Skies. And I'll certainly be picking up the rest of the series!

I loved Dark Shores so when I had the chance to request an ARC for the sequel I jumped at the opportunity without a second thought. So thank you Tor Teen for this chance to read one of my most anticipated reads of this year in advance!

I hadn’t read the synopsis or knew what Dark Skies would be about so I was confused when I’m faced with Killian’s POV as the first chapter since I had no clue who the heck he was. For this reason, it took me a while to get into the book. I was expecting a continuation of the previous book and this is not that, at all. If anything this book takes place at the same time as Dark Shores but from Lydia’s and Killian’s point of view.

Now, you’re probably wondering who the heck is Killian, as I did. He’s the youngest son of the High Lord Calorian who was marked by one of the seven gods. He’s one of the youngest commanders in a country called Mudamora. He’s honourable, loyal and selfless. So of course I fell in love with him immediately.

However, Lydia’s point of view on the first few chapters didn’t give us a lot of new information we hadn’t already known or guessed. The new part is what happened to her after Marcus had left the bathhouse. Now we know.

I don’t want to spoil stuff for anyone so I’ll keep what happens to myself as well as some of my theories about Lydia’s parentage (I think it’s obvious right from the start of this book who she is).

As usual, the writing was superb and the characters are complex and intriguing. This book gives us so so much world building and I was here for it 200%.

I really can’t wait for Gilded Serpent to come out. That ending left me screaming!!! I reckon reading from all four points of views will be wonderful.

I highly recommend this series to any fantasy lover! It’s full of delicious world building and amazing character with flawed personalities that you can’t help root for.
