I'd really give this two and a half stars. I don't know if it's just a cover-fail, but every time I open my library I see this book and can't remember what happened in the story...and then I read a page and go...Oh...that one. Vampires and angels and other creatures. The plot is completely predictable, but plot is not my King so I didn't mind that. For me Character development is King...the book starts promising...the blurb is very misleading though. I kept reading thinking there might be a chance that she'd end up with either male, but really there isn't..yet that's what the whole plot seems based around. Maybe I missed something, but in the end I found most of the main characters...not sure what word to use - inconsistent? annoying? disappointing? Maybe I need to read it again when I'm feeling better. I was sick when I read it. It was an OK story...it passed the time...it was cheap...I liked the bad-bad guy.

So it wasn't overall that great but the end was really bad. Overall I didn't really have anything against Genesis and Ethan they were fine although a bit underdeveloped but I really didn't like Stephanie and the ending of the book * Spoilers* I think it is horrible that Stephanie sacrificed Genesis and was willing to let her or Ethan die just because she wanted Cassius to love her, I think that makes her not just selfish but actually be immoral as she is willing sending people who were meant to be her friends to death. So I think it's horrible that everyone forgives her so easily and that she's not considered evil. Also her and Cassius's relationship is incest! Cassius and Aziel have the same farther making them half brothers, so Aziel's daughter, Stephanie, is Cassius's niece. Their relationship is incest.

Also there are plot holes in the story. If Stephanie is a dark one then she should also find it hard to love like Cass and if she is a dark one shouldn't she be so powerful it can't be hidden easily. But the main plot hole is that when she was a dark one Stephanie literally gave Cassius her heart to save him, if they're both dark ones why didn't Cassius already have a heart, if they are the same thing they would have the same body parts.

The characters in this book were too shallow and I couldn't connect with them emotionally. The second book in the series sounds like it could be interesting, sort of a twisted little mermaid story only with the King of the immortals having to live as a human and win the love of another within 30 days or die; Cassius was probably the best character in The Dark Ones.

I like paranormal romances generally but this one wasn't one of them. Why on earth would a human take lessons on immortals? Why would they get a telephone call to go before them? No explanation. The reader should be given the reasons why. The chapters which are written from the perspective of one and then another character were strange. The ending was even more strange. What the hell happened!.... Oh yes a cliffhanger. Not enough of one to make me read the next book, sorry.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It had a different concept of how humans interact with the immortals. The romance between Ethan and Genesis did happen very fast, maybe a bit fast, but under the circumstances it did work still. Ethan and his green vampire eyes was sexy from the start. The interaction with the other immortals was good and very funny at times. Mason was adorable! It kept me guessing until the end and I wanted to find out what was on the next page all the way through. I'll definitely be looking out for the next book in the series, I want more of Cassius!!

I absolutely freaking loved this book!
I read it in one sitting it was that good.
Genesis is a very strong character even after what her Mother put her through. I wasn't too keen on Ethan at first but once more of his past was revealed I soon changed my mind.
I cannot wait for the next book which I'm guessing will be about Cassius and Stephanie. I'm also looking forward to more of Mason, Alex and hopefully Sariel...there's so much potential!! 1000% recommended 👍

But there was something missing. I've read a handful of other books by the author and they always pulled at me emotionally. Apart from when I thought she was dead, I didn't really feel much for the characters until the end. That's not to say I didn't like them individually. Mason and Alex were two of my favourites.

Normally like this genre of book, but I found the characters lacked depth and the story moved too quickly. I had to reread many of the sentences to understand what was being meant.
