I am surprised someone went to the effort to copy the film word for word into a book, but not only do they copy words spoken, they also write what the batman and the catwoman and all the other charters do aswell. Every thing is documentary in this and it is quite incredible to see the film on paper in case you run out of electricity you can just read the film instead of needing a tv. It is brillience. I am dead impressed andhope that christopher nolan and jonathan nolan and david goyer copy some more films to book form because i was impressed. I am hopeful that this will be a new trend as the books are cheaper than the films and now i can watch the words.

What can be said about Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy that's not been said before? Nothing really, except that they're awesome and are likely to stand as one of the best trilogies ever made, up there with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. This is a collection of the three movies shooting scripts: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, they are not a novelisation of the movies.

Reading them is like watching the films but only because I've seen these films so many times now (especially The Dark Knight, the finest of the 3), but if I hadn't seen the films I would never have guessed at Heath Ledger and Tom Hardy's choices for their characters. It's one thing to look at the script and see a character there, it's another to bring it to life so memorably like Ledger's Joker. The appearance, the voice, the mannerisms - it's not in the script, Ledger brought that to his character. The scripts underline the limits of reading words on a page and the art of acting. The same could be said of Tom Hardy's Bane whose excellently creepy old English Duke voice doesn't come across on the page but was a choice by the actor (and of course Christian Bale's Batman voice... moving on!).

The scripts are tightly structured with detailed descriptions of the shots as you would expect from a Director whose work is filled with action and ambitious shots to make them as thrilling as possible. There are some storyboards included to show how some action scenes would play out like Batman and Joker's street confrontation or Bane's plane dynamics in the opening sequence of "Rises".

As a Batman fan I'm really glad that there have been films made that do justice to this great character and his world after so many attempts have gotten it wrong.

If you are a fan of the Dark Knight Trilogy, then you might enjoy reading through the screenplays. All three are quality scripts from my perspective. I think the "Batman Begins" script is probably my favorite - it is structurally sound, masterfully constructs its setups and payoffs, and has most of the humor in the trilogy.

One thing that is interesting is that there aren't very many differences between the scripts and the final film. Christopher Nolan is known to be a precise and efficient filmmaker - he shoots what's on the page. As a result, those who are looking to read deleted or extended scenes will be disappointed because there aren't many. Still, having the screenplay is useful for seeing how certain visual cues and shot descriptions are portrayed in the script -- I like following along on the page as I watch the movie.

This book collects together what is without a doubt one of the most influential and memorable trilogies of our generation. Nolan has gathered his three masterpiece scripts to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises for fans to enjoy over and over again. When the first film came out I was 16 and was just starting college. These films got me through college, university, and now leaving the cinema aged 23 having just seen a series of films about a man trying to discover his purpose and his 'identity' in life, I felt a special connection to it. Nolan's Batman is a triumph. And I cannot recommend this book highly enough to any fan of the films. Thank you for your work Mr Nolan.

The content itself is excellent, all three shooting scripts for Nolan's Batman trilogy are here and in one handy paperback volume, along with notes and other extras. However, I can only give this book 3 stars as the formatting in the book is not as it should be, they could have at least stuck with the correct screenplay font.
