Interesting and atmospheric but I am becoming concerned about the length of the books, perhaps it's deliberate but I don't wish to keep downloading short books which could really be published as one novel.

This serial must be read in order. The first episode is Dark Child (The Awakening): Episode 1. This is the second episode.

When she gets to the city her life seems to get way more complicated. She's staying In a hotel with a one star rating and feels whoever gave it one star was being overly generous! They have rats of all things! Finding a new place to live is harder than she would have thought until she sees the antique bulletin board in her realtor's lobby... There she found the perfect apartment but the realtor's reaction was just plain vicious and she's starting her dream job so she doesn't dwell on that much. If it weren't for the strange cravings and headaches and dizzy spells she'd think life was just about perfect!

This serial is awesome and I really enjoy it. The paranormal mystery just seems to grow ad the serial moves on. What is she? What was her father? I hope I find out in Dark Child (The Awakening): Episode 3! I will be starting that now :)

***This serial book series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers

Episode 1 introduces us to Kat a 24 year old Pathology Technician. After finding abnormalities in her blood results she wants to know about herself and why she has abilities which are not exactly normal. We are introduced to a Werewolf named Amarok who has been protecting Kat secretly for many years and have yet to find out why. Kat excepts a job in a research lab and moves to New York. Episode 2 continues from where episode 1 left off, Kat finds an apartment in New York which turns out to be a place more sinister than your average apartment block with secrets Kat has yet to learn. She has got through her first week at work and makes friends with a girl named Char-arella, Char too has a secret which Kat is unaware of but is soon to find out after an incident in a club where Char works.

Episode 2 is extremely short consisting of only 66 pages. Adina West provides the most detailed settings that enables the reader to imagine Kat's surroundings without effort. We also get to know her a little better when she starts talking to Char and during the incident in the club, however I still don't feel like I have any connection towards her and still neither like nor dislike her character. This episode didn't answer any of the questions I asked myself when reading episode 1 except for the fact that this is not just a werewolf story and does indeed involve other supernatural creatures. I found this part to be ok but again as in the first episode it didn't have me on the edge of my seat, but the club scene made the story better due to a little suspense. By the end of episode 2 I expected a lot more action and finished a little disappointed, however I have agreed to read to review episode 3 and the ending of this part has given me some hope that the third episode will produce a lot more action and suspense as Kat works out that not everyone in the world is human!

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Adina West, Pan Macmillan Australia, and `Never too old for YA books'.)
This is part 2 of the `Dark Child' serial, and picks up where part 1 left off.
Kat has made her way to New York and is now apartment hunting. She's having no luck until she sees a strange add in an agent's window.
When Kat enquires about the apartment she is met with hostility, and then finds out that clients who apply for these special listings are dealt with separately, and at night. The agent also makes a comment about the listings being in a different language - which Kat doesn't understand because she could read it!
What is going on with these special listings? Why can Kat read what apparently is not English? And why do there appear to be no other tenants in the building?

This is part two of the `Dark Child' serial, and in it we get the next part of the story - Kat moving to New York, and her search for an apartment. We find out a little about the strange place she eventually manages to rent, and we also get to meet another tenant, who makes suggestions towards the fact that she is a vampire. She also makes a call to report Kat to someone, because she is apparently human, has `true sight', can read this odd writing, and she can't have her mind read. I'm guessing that we will get more information as to what this girl is, and what Kat is in the next episode.

We also get a brief insight into Kat's new job, although not much and I have to say it seems a little unusual to say the least. Kat is told by one of the other scientists that they have been working on two very small samples of blood - one only the size of one slide, and that he has been trying to grow the blood to gain more.
