I am trying to dye a beautiful tan pair of children's suede moccassins (children's size 13) CHILDS SUEDE MOCCASINS PVC SOLE. MADE IN THE UK to Dark Brown and the coverage guide supplied by Dylon is way out. I have a completed one shoe perfectly and have only managed to get through the about 2/3 of the second shoe, so irritating, judging by other reviews I thought that 1 bottle would be suffice to cover a small pair of children's moccasins, not the case unfortunately.
If I was made aware of this in their instructions and product listing I simply would've purchased 2 bottles, so please be aware that 1 bottle of 50ml is NOT enough to cover a small pair of slippers, I recommend 2 x 50ml bottles to get a good even coverage on this size of shoe.
The colour is a lovely rich deep brown, and one coat is plenty to give a deep rich dark brown, however to complete that 1 cover in my experience 1 50ml bottle is not enough.
HELPFUL HINT (according to Dylon's instructions) The contents of this pack WILL dye one pair of average size shoes or small boots.
This is not true on this occasion, approx 83% of a child's slipper will be covered in my experience.
All in all an excellent product let down by it's guidelines and helpful hints that are misleading.
I applied a coat to the suede on the back half of the leg areas (suede from above ankle to the top), not the whole boot. I already knew that suede is very porous and soaks up dye like a sponge so I ordered three packs of dye in anticipation of this. I was correct in doing so, as I used one full bottle and a bit of the second, to cover the areas on both boots. After drying overnight, I brushed the dyed areas with a suede brush. I would say that it covered well enough but looked slightly translucent as I could sort of see the original pale colour through the dark brown. One coat looked like faded suede, so I applied a second coat of dye to obtain a rich deep colour. This took most of the remaining second bottle of dye, leaving about a tenth of the bottle which I poured to store in the third unused bottle of dye. So for the whole job, two coats used a total of just less than two bottles of dye.
I've kept the third bottle for future use.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the dye. I've used this brand in the past and never had any problems. The cost of three packs is well worth getting the effect that you want. The results always look better after brushing with a suede brush when it's dry, as the dye flattens the natural pile of the suede.
I've posted a photo after the two coats of dye. (The original colour of the suede was a pale sandy beige).
I'm very happy with the dye results :-)

Very easy to use. I did need two bottles, one for each boot (size 13 men's), but the coverage was good. Read morePublished 3 months ago by dlotnu
