Much of the recent biographical work on Daphne du Maurier has focused on her emotional life and whether she was lesbian or not. This begins to capture her as mother and grandmother with a great sense of humour, and not the social recluse that has so often been painted.
Fascinating. She was a school friend of my late mother and came to visit once on her way down from walking the Longmynd. She wore a flowing black coat. I was very small at the time but remember the occasion vividly.
