I was expecting a simplified and irreverent retelling of the entire poem in cartoon form. This is merely Doré's (amazing) engravings collected and bound in paperback. The text is not simply abridged, but contains significant distortions - the pilgrim Dante in Paradise asks Beatrice to intercede to redeem Virgil, and she does. Lovely idea but not one of Dante's! I wouldn't rely on this edition if you're doing an exam...
