Based on the book by David Ebershoff, The Danish Girl is the remarkable love story inspired by the lives of Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener, portrayed by Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), and directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables). Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.

Everyone kept saying how pretty he was, and he was very good at fluttering his eyelashes but he did just look like a fella in drag. The story is very thin and was highly sexualised to make up for it.
Nice camera work and all very stylish, but the script was naff. Einar and Gerda must have had a very hard time of it, but in real life it was a lavender marriage as Gerda Wegener was perhaps inclined to bisexuality, so they were a different kind of couple. So each helped the other. It is said that the real Einar/Lili may have been a hermaphrodite according to Gerda's memoirs as traces of female reproductive system were found within her body during surgery.
Anyway, I highly recommend this film to everyone, its about love; lost love, unrequited love and friendship, as well as gender dysphoria and cross dressing.
Alicia Vikander and Eddy Redmayne at their best.
