HASH(0x91897f3c) out of 5 stars The anticipation was worth the wait 26 May 2006
By Inspiration Lover - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Nothing makes me happier than to see a favorite author come out with a new book and Colleen Coble certainly falls into this category. This third book in the Aloha Reef series is a twisting, intriguing romantic suspense that will leave you guessing at every turn what's going to happen.

The story of Bane and Leia will alternately make you smile and want to shake them. Set against the beautiful island of Moloka'i, Coble handles the subject of Hansen's disease with grace and sensitivy. Coble has already proven her mastery of characterization and setting but Dangerous Depths is her best effort yet.

I highly encourage long time time fans and first time readers to pick up this book. You won't be disappointed with this latest offering. For myself I can't wait to see what Colleen comes up with next. It's a guaranteed read into the small hours for sure.

Dangerous Depths
By Colleen Coble
Review By Laura V. Hilton
Price $14.99

Bane Oanu is in search of a sunken Spanish ship, rumored to have treasure. But his plane is sabotaged and he is forced to parachute into the sea where his former fiancée rescues him. His plane lands near the sight of the sunken ship, and when he dives down, he finds a cannon ball. But his best friend, Tony, who was diving with him, surfaces too fast and is dead when he reaches the surface. Foul play is suspected.

Leia Kahale settled in an old leper's colony on a small Hawaiian Island after ditching a promising medical career in favor of natural cures. She doesn't know what to think about Bane's return. She still has feelings for him.

Soon dangerous things start happening. Human remains are washed up on shore. Earthquakes are cracking the earth near the shipwreck. Time is running out. But rumor has it that the treasure isn't there anyway, and someone is stalking Leia. How can they sort it all out when it seems everyone has something to hide?

Dangerous Depths is the third book in the Aloha Reef series and easily stands alone. In my opinion, it's the best book in the entire series. I loved Bane, he is a true hero, and Leia is realistically developed. I cared what happened to these characters.

The setting is realistically described, it seemed I dived with the characters and saw what they saw. I ran the full range of emotions with this book. DangerousDepths is not a book to be missed. The faith message is expertly woven in, the suspense is riveting, and there's even a romance. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book as well as an excerpt to Ms. Coble's newest book, Fire Dancer. $14.99. 282 pages.

HASH(0x918e9870) out of 5 stars Dangerous Depths a Fast Read 2 Nov. 2006
By Cara Putman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Dangerous Depths is Colleen Coble's third installment in the Aloha Reef series. In it she focuses on the oldest Oana sibling, Bane. He has been a rock in the first two books, and in this one you see why. He doesn't know how to not try to control events around him. But from the moment his plane dives into the ocean, the events in the book rocket out of his control.

Leia Kahale turned her back on traditional medicine to embrace homeopathic, holistic medicine, a decision her mother won't accept. She broke off her engagement with Bane, but finds him back in her life -- a situation she is not comfortable with.

Bane has returned to help a friend find a sunken ship rumored to be filled with treasure. When his partner dies, Bane and Leia work together to find answers. The interactions and conflicts between them rang true. Each had reasons for the ways they responded to the events.

Colleen paints amazing pictures of Hawaii in this book. As I read it, I could almost feel the tradewinds on my face and the stifling heat in the jungle. Her attention to detail transforms the setting into an active part of the plot. While this is the third book in the series, you don't need to have read the previous books to understand and fully enjoy this one.

HASH(0x91896234) out of 5 stars Even more unbelievable 12 Feb. 2015
By K. Shelby - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I thought the second book in this series was only fair, and I wish I hadn't tried this third book. Perhaps it was because nearly every single character in this book was unlikable and unusually callous. Spoiler alert: For example, Bane and Leia witness the brutal murder of a friend. However, since their friend is dead and there's nothing they can do about an already dead person, they decide to continue looking for the treasure instead of going for help or calling the police. Seriously? And on top of that, they decide to continue looking for the treasure when the murderer is probably hiding in the jungle a few feet away from them. Why weren't they terrified? At this point the book and series lost me as a reader.
