Review

Fast, furious and fabulous (Michael J. Sullivan, author of THEFT OF SWORDS)

Dalglish is well on his way to join the ranks of Peter V. Brett and Brent Weeks as influential authors in a new generation of fantasy (FANTASY FACTION)

Dalglish concocts a heady cocktail of energy, breakneck pace and excitement that a reader could get drunk on (Sam Sykes, author of TOMB OF THE UNDERGATES)

A gritty book with intriguing characters and has a plot which will keep you hooked till the end (FANTASY BOOK CRITIC)

A winning combination of A Game of Thrones, sword-and-sorcery RPGs, and vivid description . . . The point of view shifts continually, encompassing bit players and major characters from every angle of the struggle, and Dalglish handles his cast of thousands with aplomb . . . this is a fun read. Dalglish puts familiar pieces together with a freshness and pleasure that are contagious (PUBLISHERS WEEKLY)

Book Description

The fourth novel in an electrifying new fantasy series of thieves and assassins from bestselling author David Dalglish - perfect for fans of Brent Weeks. *Previously released as Blood of the Underworld*

I bought every booked published by this author who does write incredibly well. As with all eBooks in my possession there are typos and misspellings which ought not to be there. Also I'm a fast reader and think some books could have been put together. At times it felt like buying episodes rather than a chunky book. However I will buy more books as they are published because the author is talented and tells a good tale. A good read.

Again didn't know where this book was going to go and Daglish did not disappoint! Brilliant twist to the end. Need to get started on the next one straight away though because it doesn't quite finish this book...

I started reading David's books starting with book one and I really enjoy the the many build up of all the characters without needing to remember to many,I hope this ends in a way that would lead me on to the ork books which if the conclusion to this story ends well ,i will have to read

Ok for a start .. the people giving this one star.. The Author and the Publisher have not hidden the fact on social media that old titles have been revamped and re published. If you have not read any of the Haern/watcher related stories and you are reading my review ...stop this is book 4 go back and start at the beginning (Dance of Cloaks). If you have read the Watcher books before ..get this it has angled the book series leading to future books possible. It's less stand alone and allows the story to move on (also one or two major plot alterations)

Yes I read the original .. and for the most part I knew where the story was going (those of you who are getting to book 4 for the first time enjoy the ride) but as I sit down on my lunch break reflecting on how I felt at the end of the story last night ...the important feeling I had was that the watcher can now move on. Through editing and a different slant we now get a bridge from one part of the watchers life to another .. ..at this point your probably thinking ...isn't that the point ..but no. When I finished the original version while entertaining the ending was flat (well as much as David Dalglish books can be) .. Besides a guy in cloaks who is great with blades ..there was no real character development between the Watcher in the series and the Character that is seen in the half Orcs series (Haern is not a central character in that series but is involved some significant parts) .. I do not want to spoil plot lines etc for people who have not read the other series or who will in future.

Is it my favourite book he has ever written ...no. It is a very important book all the same..

I too have read "Blood of the Underworld" however this is NOT the same book. The original was self-published and as the author has been picked up by Orbit they requested that all the books be re-released.

This is from the author's Facebook group:
"Well, today's the day: another big release, this time the (massively) rewritten Blood of the Underworld, now officially part of the Shadowdance series like it should have always been:

I'll have the primer up in a few hours most likely, detailing as many of the changes as I can remember. In short, though, this is probably the first of the re-launched titles I would highly recommend grabbing even if you read the original, due to how many tweaks I made, and how they will affect the final two books in the series."

I suggest you re-read this new edition and enjoy the rest of the series. Imagine you have just bought the directors cut of your favourite movie! You now get to re-enjoy the book the way it was always meant to be!

For those that have never read any of these books, if your into fantasy books, you REALLY need to give this series a go. Dalglish is a fantastic author. He has created some fantastic characters and some excellent words in which they live. The action is fast paced, witty and gripping without ever being pompous or long winded. Do yourself a favour and pick up the whole series and you'll soon be hooked on this and his other series!

Another excellent offering from Dalglish, with the pace picked up a bit compared to the previous book. Also set back in Veldaren and leading the way for what promises to be an epic next book. My only gripe is that Haern seems almost a secondary character in this book, popping up at key points but otherwise very little character advancement for him.

Despite owning the previous version of this book I still had this on pre-order and I was not disappointed.
Really felt like reading a new book, the fact I had read the previous version did not at all detract from enjoying this one. Enjoyed the fleshing out if the characters and new detail to the story.
Worth buying for any fan.
