Yes I read the original .. and for the most part I knew where the story was going (those of you who are getting to book 4 for the first time enjoy the ride) but as I sit down on my lunch break reflecting on how I felt at the end of the story last night ...the important feeling I had was that the watcher can now move on. Through editing and a different slant we now get a bridge from one part of the watchers life to another .. ..at this point your probably thinking ...isn't that the point ..but no. When I finished the original version while entertaining the ending was flat (well as much as David Dalglish books can be) .. Besides a guy in cloaks who is great with blades ..there was no real character development between the Watcher in the series and the Character that is seen in the half Orcs series (Haern is not a central character in that series but is involved some significant parts) .. I do not want to spoil plot lines etc for people who have not read the other series or who will in future.
Is it my favourite book he has ever written ...no. It is a very important book all the same..Read more ›
This is from the author's Facebook group:
"Well, today's the day: another big release, this time the (massively) rewritten Blood of the Underworld, now officially part of the Shadowdance series like it should have always been:
I'll have the primer up in a few hours most likely, detailing as many of the changes as I can remember. In short, though, this is probably the first of the re-launched titles I would highly recommend grabbing even if you read the original, due to how many tweaks I made, and how they will affect the final two books in the series."
I suggest you re-read this new edition and enjoy the rest of the series. Imagine you have just bought the directors cut of your favourite movie! You now get to re-enjoy the book the way it was always meant to be!
For those that have never read any of these books, if your into fantasy books, you REALLY need to give this series a go. Dalglish is a fantastic author. He has created some fantastic characters and some excellent words in which they live. The action is fast paced, witty and gripping without ever being pompous or long winded. Do yourself a favour and pick up the whole series and you'll soon be hooked on this and his other series!
Really felt like reading a new book, the fact I had read the previous version did not at all detract from enjoying this one. Enjoyed the fleshing out if the characters and new detail to the story.
Worth buying for any fan.

The book is evolving the characters in the story and leaving interesting openings to finish the series on an amazing way. I can
T wait to read the continuation.
I liked this book even though some good characters had to finish up dead or maimed.
I shall start the next one with relish and see where it leads.
