This is AK and Phebes story. I adore AK we've never really seen the real him, just glimpses of the man he is. So I loved seeing the man underneath. I have to be honest his secrets broke my heart.
Phebe has never felt real love, used and abused from a young age passed around by the Order then by the Evil Meister. She's suffered so much, I loved her strength she's so brave. My heart broke for her too.
AK is on a mission to save Phebe from the Meister he feels a connection to her that he can't explain, he needs to save her.
So with his Brothers he makes a plan to retrieve her and bring her back.
Things aren't that easy as Phebe has secrets too. There's a connection between her and AK two damaged souls that are drawn to each other. These two just killed me I wanted to hug them so badly.
This book was just amazing. I love the connection throughout from the other characters. You never feel left behind because these books just flow perfectly from one to the next.
The Psycho Trio...Gah I bloody love them. This book just cemented my Love for Viking, he is hilarious. I need his story so bad.
I can not wait for more from the Hangmen this series just goes from strength to strength. It's addictive in every way.
I was soooo looking forward to this book and I was not disappointed. It was so intense though that my nails are now non existent and it made me cry twice. I loooooove the couple of Flame chapters as it gave us a little insight into his way of thinking after everything and the storyline, as sick and twisted as it was, was just fantastic.
AK and Phebe were awesome, both their stories were heart breaking, and I can't freakin wait for the next one. As for side characters, for some reason I can't remember Slash, I can't wait to see more of Zane and Lil' Ash is gonna be amazing whenever he gets a story and he'd better get one Tillie, just saying.
The only not so good thing for me was I kept seeing little errors. I don't remember Tillie Cole books having so many errors, but then the last few books of hers I've read have been ARCS so I tend to ignore mistakes in ARCS. I bought this book though, so would have though any issues would have been dealt with. It didn't take away any enjoyment for me though, just surprised me is all.
5 stars for another book that is one of my favourite series.
It can't be done, the world is too complex, too tangled and demanding.
Black and white are good for ideals and religion. But people are varying shades of grey and even the most saintly have dirt of sin on their hands.
This book is so much more than just a story. I thought I was reading a dark romance but I was soooooo wrong. This book is a testimony of how their is darkness in this world, Of how individuals drown/bleed in their pain and sorrows. But with strength, bravery, unconditional acceptance & compassion you can chase the sunrise.
There is a quote in the book that's touch my heart so deeply that explain pain and how anyone can overcome it.
"What if we are being held in midnight, AK?Both us locked in the dark of our pasts. Together. And maybe we must endure the darkness for a while. But then, one day will come the sunrise. The darkness will end, and the sunlight will pour in. Sunrise, AK. Just imagine"
Sayings & lyrics that I think best describe the characters in this book.
Xavier Deyes aka AK -
If you cheat then cheat death.
If you steal then steal a women's heart.
If you fight then fight for your brother.
Phebe aka Red -
Lyrics Never give up - Sia
"I've battled demons that won't let me sleep
Called to the sea but she abandoned me.
Oh yeah, I'm haunted by the distant past
Called to the skies but she was she overcast.
But I won't never give up, no, never give up, no, no
No, I won't never give up, no, never give up, no, no
I'll find my way, find my way home oh oh oh"
Tillie Cole does a fantastic job of keeping the pace of the story consistent. In each of the books I have been hooked from start to finish. Every time the story consumes me, keeping me captivated until the every last page. Damnable Grace is no different in that respect.
AK and Phebe were two very complex individuals. Each of them are held captive by events that have taken place in their life. They recognise the similar thing in each other and together they try to overcome what haunts them.
In Damnable Grace, the Hangmen have to face a new enemy. An enemy that is just as evil and possibly more depraved than the members of the cult had been.
The only part of the book that had left me disappointed was when I got to the end. I wanted the story to go on and on and on... But as the saying goes "All good things come to an end".
I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.
