Athletes foot and jock itch are two common complaints - especially on drilling-rigs where you do not have control over the laundry and temperature of washing/rinsing towels and underwear.
Over the past 35 years I have found Daktarin to be the most effective treatment for both conditions, and this 2% version, without hydrocortisone, is the best- and it is great to be able to buy the 30g tube - in my local chemists only 15g tubes are available.
Incidentally, once clear I also use either Daktarin powder or Cuticura powder around my groin after every shower (I find the cuticura the best - it is available on Amazon Cuticura Mildly Medicated Talc 250g, is easy to "puff" out of the container and doesn't form clumps).
These days I also dry between my toes with a tissue or kitchen-roll rather than a towel.
When I was at university I played rugby and went to the campus GP with ,my first case of jock-itch. I described the itchy red rash in my groin, and he told me to take off my shoes and socks. I was obviously surprised, but he saw that I had athletes foot between a couple of pairs of toes, and explained that it was quite common to transfer the fungus from the toes to other suitable parts of the body by means of a towel. I bought a small towel to keep exclusively for drying my feet and between the toes.
This is the first time I have bought it on-line and, like so many things nowadays, for price and convenience that is the way to go. Bought from Amazon Marketplace seller PharmaCity, the pack I received is of an updated design (predominantly green instead of predominantly yellow), but the active ingredient is still micronazole nitrate at 2 per cent (2mg per g), so no problem.
A box for the product was packed flat separate from the tube (!), and there is a leaflet of the type found with all medicines these days - listing what Daktarin is for; how to use it; what to avoid; possible allergies; etc. In short, it takes itself more seriously as a medicine than I remember it doing before - and there is absolutely no harm in that. Apparently, it is a good idea to speak to a doctor or pharmacist about using Daktarin if you are pregnant, might become pregnant or are breast-feeding - so for some people it will be important to know that.
The surprise for me was the instruction not to apply an additional dose if you miss one of the twice-daily applications indicated. Also to keep up the treatment for 7 days after all signs of infection have gone. I have always used it on an ad hoc basis until the discomfort and visual indications go away. That probably worked out at about twice a day, but for not quite as long. Now I know better.
I rubbed it in and left if on over night ...next morning ...what a disappointment it doesn't give you Athletes feet at all !
Got rid of the fungus though
