"Dakota of the White Flats" is one of Phillip Ridley's most outstanding books. It has all the qualities of a fabulous childrens book: comedy, romance, mystery, adventure and a few twists and turns along the way! This book in the long run was one of the best books I've ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So much so that I purchased a copy myself! Being in my early teens was no match for this book it still kept me hanging on, I couldn't put it down!

Dakota of the white flats is the most original, comical childrens book i have ever read. It contains a cast of such mis-fits (a cabbage eating ghost writer, a tortise with a gem incrusted back etc..) that it is a real joy to see how they are all connected. Containing some of the most interesting twists, Dakota goes away from the steriotypical childrens stories and focuses on a more unexpected read. The characters are a joy to read about and the overall story is so intriguing that you find it hard to put down, mainly due to the unexpected twists and plot changes occur. a real pleasure to read.

I first read this book when I was around 10 or 11 and I completely adored it! Unfortunately, it's been out of print for a while and all the local libraries have either sold/lost their copies, so I've had to search high and low, until I found it here on amazon.co.uk. Not only did I manage to find it, but I found one in perfect condition (bar a little yellowing of the pages due to age, but who cares about that?) and a first edition.
A gem of a book that's taken me back to "the good old days" and would be a brilliant read for all ages even now, 20 years after it was 1st published.
