I kept a 2L water bladder (nearly full), a GoPro, and extra layers for a few people snowboarding with me and it was fine. I didnt even notice it was there on the runs. It did make me sit a bit forward on the ski lift when the pack was full. I'm constantly torn between wishing it was just a little bigger (when I want to carry more) , and wishing it was just a bit smaller (when I'm riding the lift) So, I suspect it's size is perfect!
It is very well made with smooth moving zippers and a nice padded spot for your goggles. I would highly recommend this to any snowboarder or skier.
The older zippers were of a much higher quality and larger, which I felt will make them last much longer. Also, the waist straps were sturdier and held them selves up when not strapped on. On this model they are thinner and droop down like a basset hounds ears. This isn't a problem if you are wearing the pack for what it was made for, but how many of us actually use it 100 percent for heli-boarding or skiing. Mine spends most of its use in an airport or under an airplane seat.
Another nitpick is the goggle pouch zipper opens from the left side of the pack, opposite of the earlier generations. I am still getting used to that... Maybe if you are left handed and sling the bag over your left shoulder to reach into grab your glasses or goggles it is fine, but for a right handed man it is an annoyance.
All issues aside I am real happy with my purchase, yet if I had ordered a black (read: less obnoxious color) when I had ordered my last Heli Pro, I would not have bought a new one.
The new pack is great, lightweight, better built and much better looking than 99% of bags out there; but it is lacking the indestructible feel of the older generation. It just isn't a 5 star bag.
I have a few gripes however. The pocket for the hydration system began to rip only after a few days of use (60 oz platypus hydration pack inside). Also, the strap with the zipper opening for the hydration system isn't wide enough to zip over most mouthpieces. If you leave your mouthpiece exposed to the elements and don't zip it up, it can freeze within minutes. The large and small compartments could also use a few pockets to organize all the little items. Last thing: the little pouch pocket on the waist strap unzips very easily with regular wear and wind, so don't put any valuables there.
It's a good backpack to have, but I probably wouldn't buy this exact model again. There's better and more feature-rich equipment out there for the money.
