Daisy’s Long Road Home by Merryn Allingham

Daisy’s Long Road Home is a thrilling final part to the Daisy’s War trilogy. Merryn Allingham has written another gripping fast paced novel which combines adventure, thriller, history and romance. Both Daisy and Grayson endure more set-backs and near death adventures, before finding the lasting love which each craves. This novel stands alone in its well plotted new adventures, but also satisfyingly solves all the intrigues and mysteries in the trilogy as a whole.

It is a real page turner, so that I read quickly wanting to know what happens, but I did not want to get to the end. I am left eagerly awaiting a new novel by Merry Allingham.

This is the third book in a series. In this book Daisy continues to try and solve the mystery of her birth. The search takes her back to Post War India in the throes of partition. I knew of course of independence but have really never considered the impact on the Indian people This was a real eye opener for me and demonstrates extensive research. Daisy meets up with many of the characters from her previous novels and I enjoyed meeting them again. This book contains love, mystery and drama. At times there is breathtaking suspense. Why then do I have a feeling of disappointment? Although the book is well written I found that the intervening years between Book 2 and 3 at the beginning of the book did not flow smoothly. The story really did not begin to grab my attention until Daisy arrived back in India. I found the plot rather tortuous and at times rather improbable. Although I admit that the periods of action were spellbinding and well written I have to confess to periods of boredom between them. I had a feeling of 'Oh get on with it' at times. Never the less it is a fairly good read that is lifted by the very good parts in it.

Not the fastest moving book - felt there was a bit of repetition and having read books 1 and 2 already didn't need this - but still wanted to know how Daisy ended up. I enjoyed the trilogy and this would certainly be a package to take on the Kindly for the holidays.
