—Charles E. KirkThe Kirk Report

"′Dr. Brett′, as he is affectionately known by his blog readers, has assembled a practical guide to self coaching in this excellent book. The strategies he outlines are further enhanced with numerous resources and exercises for the reader to refer to and keep the principles fresh. I enthusiastically encourage anyone interested in bettering their trading and investing to read this book and keep it on their desk as a constant source of learning."

From the Inside Flap

Every trader is an entrepreneur. And just as a new business must capitalize upon the strengths of its founders, a career in the markets crucially hinges upon the assets—personal and monetary—of the trader. As an active trader and a coach of traders in hedge funds, proprietary trading groups, and investment bank settings, author Brett Steenbarger has helped others see the personal assets they have possessed all along: those that can pay a lifetime of dividends. In The Daily Trading Coach, he provides the tools to help you prioritize both your trading goals and your life—and become your own trading psychologist.

There are 101 lessons in The Daily Trading Coach, each averaging several pages in length. Each lesson follows the same general format: identifying an everyday challenge that traders face, an approach to meeting that challenge, and a specific suggestion for implementing that approach. The lessons cover a range of topics relevant to trading psychology and trading performance, including detailed instruction for utilizing psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioral brief therapy methods to change problematic behavior patterns and instill new, positive ones. The chapters are independent of one another, so that you can read them in order or you can use the Table of Contents or Index to read, each day, the lesson that most applies to your current trading. In addition, the book includes insightful self–coaching perspectives from eighteen successful trading professionals who share their work online.

While the aim of the book is to help you become your own trading coach, its broader purpose is to help you coach yourself through life. The challenges and uncertainties you face in trading—the pursuit of rewards in the face of risks—are just as present in careers and relationships as in markets. The Daily Trading Coach provides a road map, and a practical set of insights and tools, for discovering and implementing the best within you.

This is the outstanding book of 2009 on the subject of trading psych. There are so many nuggets of wisdom you'll probably run dry your yellow highlighter. For twenty quid you are getting a great insight into how to mind map your way to a more optimal trading performance. Brett Steenbarger, along with Ari Kiev, is passing on knowledge that elite sports people have been psyching to make them winners, bang this book in your library for more bucks.

I've been trading full time for over 3 years and have read a LOT of books. This is one I keep dipping into and always find useful. Trading can be a lonely, demoralising business, it's often hard to know if losses are because you're not trading well, or market conditions have changed or your system is just not good enough and you've just been lucky in the past... This book reads as one trader talking to another - you could probably say most of the things yourself if you've been round a while and think deeply about your trading, but it's very useful to have someone else say them in a well organised and interesting way. Highly recommended.

I'll try not to get carried away by throwing superlatives about.

Very simply, this is an outstanding book for both novice and seasoned leathery old traders alike.

I would expect a book of this nature to have at least one or two "ah ha" moments. This book is FILLED with them!

What sets this book apart is the practial advice and suggested exercises. Yes ... you are given homework! This is not a nice-to-have coffee table book. Dr. Brett gets you to take a long hard look yourself ... and then helps you to fix the broken bits.

One will probably need to read this book many times over and to make notes of those potentially career/life changing "ah ha" points that fill this book.

I've traded leveraged stock and index instruments full time for my own account since 2006. I've experienced the highs of winning and that icky feeling in the pit of my gut with losses. I've been through the mill and that has given me a greater appreciation of this book and its author.

A book I could not put down. It applies to both short and long term investors. Split into lessons of two to three pages, its packed with ideas and tips to keep yourself in tune and not loose sight of your goals. I'm going to read this again, taking notes this time to add to my own book of trading practice.
Not a chart in the whole book. This is about mental training, and how to keep an eye on yourself as though you where being coached by a mentor.

im still reading this book but it has to be one of the best books I have read on trading, it has highlighted faults that I am consistantly making in the markets and gives you methods and techniques in rectifying them. the book is split down into little lessons on various subjects regarding trading and at the end of each lesson it gives you ideas and a "homework lesson" to tackling the financial markets. this book is good for novices who are just getting started and if followed might save them some money in potential lossses
