I'm so glad that I bought my miniature dachshund puppy before I bought this book as she puts you off a bit! I know that may sound irresponsible but I am an experienced larger dog keeper, just not had a small dog before. Other than that I like the way that the book is written and would recommend it.

I've bought a few 'Dummies' books before and they vary. In this case, I didn't find the book a help at all. The writer would say, 'Well you could do this, but then again, many people do that' and didn't really come down off the fence. For example, SHOULD YOUR DOG BE ALLOWED TO GO UP AND DOWN STAIRS? Answer: MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND. I couldn't detect the voice of personal experience and my husband and I immediately bought a more authoritative book on the subject.

As part of the 'For Dummies' books, it covers all aspects of dog ownership, but feels like the information has just been collated from numerous other reference books. This book doesn't feel that the book has been written by a Dachshund enthusiast. If you just want the facts about dachshunds, then this book will deliver. However, if you want all the facts but would like to know the book was written by an expert, go for The Dachshund Best of Breed by Ian Seath, this book has everything you need to know with wonderful glossy photos and is far more engaging to read. Also Dachshund for Dummies makes reference to all the American clubs, whereas The Dachshund Best of Breed gives all information on UK breed clubs.

We are very new with puppies and in this case with dachshunds and have bought quite a lot of books about puppies. This is by far the most useful, helpful, funny, special book about Dachshunds. Inside you'll find everything you need in absolute. How to care, how to play, how to choose a good breeder, what is good and bad for your Dachsi! I reccommend this book to all the people who want to know or love this breed.

Excellent book for someone like myself who has never owed a Dachshund. Has been really good help for me this week, my first week as a Dachshund owner and will also help me very much in the future.

Fantastic book. Everything you need to know about training and bringing up a dachshund. Great tips and advice I haven't read in other dachshund books. Would highly recommend to someone buying a puppy, well written and very easy to comprehend.

Great book with plenty of information regarding this gorgeous breed. We actually have two dachshunds puppies (brother and sister) so this book has been invaluable so far. I am sure we will soon be delving into the training chapters and there is also a chapter which focuses on caring for the elderly dachshund which i'm sure in years to come will help also.
