Factors that affect colour results
The current colour of the item
The colour result will depend on the different colours mixed. For example, dyeing a blue shirt with a Tulip Red DYLON Hand Dye, will give a purple result. Please see the colour mixing guide on the left.
The type of fabric
Natural fabrics like wool, silk, cotton, linen and viscose are perfect for dyeing. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon won’t dye. Mixed fabrics will achieve a lighter shade of the colour.
The weight of fabric
One sachet is enough to dye 250g of fabric to the full shade or up to 500g of fabric to lighter shades. Use multiple packs to dye larger quantities.

You can see in the photo how Emerald Green came out on the cotton rope I dyed. The rope was wet when I started to help give a gentle gradient as the dye slightly travels up the fibres, after that I moved the piece up out of the dye every 15 minutes (and gave it all a swish about) then left the ends for extra time. Oh and I had already unraveled the ends of my rope before dyeing, I don't think it would penetrate the rope enough to unravel them after unless you're going for an uneven look on purpose.
I did then chuck a plain boring white muslin cloth into the dye after which came out patchy, however, I believe this happened because the main piece I dyed had soaked up a lot of the dye and so there weren't enough dye particles left to give perfect coverage. Had I used more of the pack I'm sure this wouldn't have happened. What to do with the other 3/4 of the pack eh! :)
The mixing with the water caused some sediment formation (not sure if that was human error, I used rather warm water and maybe too much salt)
I used it to dye some Jogging bottoms which were a light grey to begin with. during staining the red was very deep, but lightened out after washing. This was good for me, however if you want it to stay deeper I would use a less heavy material than I did.
Carried out the staining on my kitchen worktop, big mistake as I spilt it. The (dark) worktop was unaffected and some went onto my light tiles, still no issues.
A photo is attached, the white splatter is my doing (white paint) and is not completely indicative of how the red dyed. Unfortunately I don't have any other pictures before the addition of that paint.
Happy with the product overall!
pure cotton lightweight skirt came out palest of pale peaches. would have been more effective to simply hot-wash white skirt with brown clothing in the machine - colour would have been a lot deeper without palaver of dyeing! maybe just a duff batch???.
if you really need this colour, use 2 packets instead of 1 and double the salt ratio and you might get something like the desired effect.
