That's not to say it's perfect. Expansion of the information given on some places, and those large drawings, means that others are skimped and some one would reasonably expect to see covered are not even mentioned. A pity. The publishers have the remedy for that in their own hands, though: does the book really need pages and pages of lists of hotels and restaurants all over the country? There are plenty of other sources for that information after all, in this era of travel and review websites, and material there will be more current. The list only skim the surface anyway, I've stayed in a number of hotels in Thailand, from boutique to 5-star, almost all good enough to be heartily recommended, yet only one gets a mention here. My advice to DK: get rid of the listings, freeing up the space for a bit more coverage and filling the gaps.
That said, I would recommend this guide but for Bangkok and Phuket I would also recommend DK's short "Top Ten" guide books on those areas (if they did any more I would recommend those too, the Top Tens are excellent, if not comprehensive, pocket guides).
It includes all different places in Thailand from the North, west, south, east and also has a section for Bangkok. If you are not traveling to the rest of Thailand and you only want to see Bangkok, try a different tour guide.
Other than that: perfect delivery, good condition, happy with the product.
What's the point of reading pages of text, trying to decide where to go?
Look at a picture! If it's looks good, go there, if not, dont!
The maps are great and the illustrations are beautifully done.
I've critisised some of the recomendations for restaurants in the past, but I'm sure it's hard to get right all the time.
I've read other travels books and found them too full of uniteresting information, lacking pictures and basically too hard to swallow.
DK books are concise, interesting, good to look at and fun. Get excited about your holiday and buy one!
