Every year I try to go to a different country on holidays. And with every country comes a new DK Eyewitness book. They are the only travel guides I would ever consider buying. Seeing where I am going is so important to me. I also love to read up on the history of a place and knowing a little about it before I go. I love all the travel tips and advice at the back. And the hotel and restaurant guide is great to have too. Spain is such an amazing country, and each town is so differnt to the next. I bought this book, read it and then decided which part of the county I wanted to see. It is SO much more than a travel guide - It is your first glimpse into Spain.

This guide book is full of nice pictures of things to see and do in Spain. In my trip I went to Seville, Granada and Jerez de la Fonterra and so a general guide to Spain was ideal. The section on southern Spain did have good information and decent enough maps of Granada and Seville. The book also had good sections on Spanish food, flamenco (I enjoyed a good night of flamenco in a bar in Seville recommended in this book), sherry and Spanish history all of which were made interesting by using good pictures and good presentation. All of this made planning my trip to Spain enjoyable and really stimulated my enthusiasm for going. After reading bout the Alhambra and the Real Alcazar (in Granada and Seville respectively) and thanks to the well produced pictures and diagrams to accompany these I was very keen to visit them on my trip. The drawback of the book was that it was not so helpful in Spain. There was information about train links, but only a picture of where the stations were and nothing about train times. As it turned out I travel between cities by bus of which there was no information in my book. Also whilst in Jerez I looked up recommended places to eat, but when I looked up Jerez in the guide book its only 2 recommendations where for places in Cadiz. I did find a very nice tapas place whilst waling about in Jerez although this guide book did not have a map of Jerez at all. I thought this was a bit amiss as Jerez is the centre of sherry production and is well worth a day or two out there to visits some of the bodegas where they make sherry.Read more ›

This is the very best travel guide of Spain that I have come across. I live in Spain and have searched for a comprhensive guide for a long time.
Particularly useful are the llustrated town maps and descriptive notes on each region. Great detail is given which is not foud in other guide books and all major towns are covered.

Well laid out and easy to find the information that I was looking for. Reading through this has really motivated me to explore the regions in Spain that I've not yet visited.

This book is everything I need in a Travel guide. Interesting, informative, well laid out and with excellent City maps. I particularly like the art work depicting buildings and historic areas of cities. It makes it much easier to find your way around.
My only negative comment is that it's a little heavy (just over a kilo)if you're carrying it around all day. I managed o.k. with it in a small back pack.

If you want a handy guide with just about everything in you could want to know as you travel around this one's for you. Concise, clear and well written its easy to absorb with plenty of excellent colour photo's and illustrations. I found it invaluable during my last trip to northern Spain. I used it to plan a 2 week tour, picking places that would interest me. Saved wasting time looking for places to stay. I also have an AA guide and a Berlitz guide to Spain. Better than both by a mile. You won't be disappointed at this inexpensive purchase. Promise.

Finding a good travel book nowadays seems easy but what this series, eyewitness guides, offers is unbeatable - brilliantly written and illustrated, the book gives not only a description of monuments, it sets the in their historical and geographical context and makes you 'understand' the place. Thank you!

Me and my friend went to Barcelona, Figures,Valencia, Granada, Cordoba, Madrid and Toledo last summer. We had 2 guide books but we referred to this one most of the time. The information was clear and up to date. Another friend went to Barcelona this weekend and I lent her my copy. I have bought other DK travel guides before and they were all the best of quality, highly recommended.
