Not been to Crete yet but looks good; have ticked off a few things to do and see already. Have bought Top 10 guide books before.

An OK book for general Crete travel suggestions and information. Due to the size of the book, it doesn't go into anything in great detail, but was sufficient for my week in Crete.

The guide had everything I needed for a visit to Crete. On occasion it did represent a triumph of advertising over substance, but that could be down to expectations being too high. A very useful resource, but be wary of the hype.

By Squirr-El HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWER on 8 July 2015
Format: Paperback
This 144-page book - the July 2015 print edition - is a colourful and informative guide to the attractions of the Eastern Mediterranean island of Crete; for real visitors and armchair travellers alike. It has all the usual features, including excellent maps and articles. There are excellent colour photos breaking up the text columns, so you can see what you are looking for. It is a handy up-to-date guidebook, with all the usual topics a tourist guide provides, as well as chapters on the top ten sites (Ancient Knossos; Irakleio; Irakleio Archaeological Museum; Chania; Phaestos; Rethymno; Gortys; Samaria Gorge; the Amari Valley & Mt Idi; and Gournia).

The Contents include -
P008: Crete’s Top 10
P078: Around the Island
P116: Streetsmart (practical touristy information); including -
P126: Places to Stay
P132: General Index
P140: Phrase Book

Ordered this book for our holiday to Crete later this year, it looks perfect for what we want. We have used DK Top 10 books before and they have always been very informative without too much information to fight your way through.

A handy size and covers most of the essentials. Probably all that the average visitor/holidaymaker needs to enjoy the lovely island of Crete and its main sites/areas/features of interest.
Two criticisms: 1 - the town maps are much too small and lacking in detail to be really useful, and 2 - there's a certain amount of unnecessary repetition of info across the various sections.
We didn't really use the restaurant guide, as there are so many to choose from wherever you go (and some hidden gems off the beaten track) and local recommendations are generally reliable. Apart from this, the guide was well used and informative. I'm happy to recommend it, and will try others in the series on future trips.

This book is easy to read, and divided into both geographical and topical sections. We used it extensively during our holiday. It is written in the right amount of detail - some guides are give too much information in too small a print - this got the right balance so you didn't spend your holiday studying the guide at length.
