I have a large number of these travel guides. What I like about them is their format - each book gives an overview (rather than lots of detail). It provides a summary of what is on offer. Inside is not just the obvious i.e. the Top 10 sights to see. Also you get things like the Top 10 museums & galleries, Top 10 markets, Top 10 Arts & Crafts, Top 10 events etc. - even the Top 10 things to avoid. That makes them very useful, and a unique approach to travel guides. I use them to decide what to do, and then use another book (or a website) to give me more detail if I need that.

In this book you get things like:
 Algarve highlights
 Faro Old Town
 Tavira
 Silves
 Lagos
 Parque Natural da Ria Formosa
(These are just some of them - not all)

Top 10 topics include:
 Top 10 Moments in History
 Top 10 Beaches
 Top 10 Resort Towns
 Top 10 Inland Villages
 Top 10 Coastal Villages
 Top 10 Museums
 Top 10 Premier Golf Courses
 Top 10 Holiday Golf Courses
 Top 10 Walks in the Algarve
 Top 10 Children's Attractions
 Top 10 Restaurants
(Again, these are just some of them - not all)

The book in its physical format is small - just small enough to fit inside a DL envelope (i.e. the standard white envelope, designed to accept a sheet of A4 paper folded twice). It is actually a few centimetres shorter than a DL envelope. This compact size makes it easy to fit into your pocket.

This book can't provide detail - it can provide `the big picture'. I now normally take two travel guides with me - a DK Top 10 one like this and a detailed travel guide, to get the best of both worlds.

By Squirr-El HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWER on 3 Jun. 2015
Format: Paperback
This 144-page book - the June 2015 print edition - is a colourful and informative guide to the attractions of the Algarve region of Portugal; for real visitors and armchair travellers alike. It has all the usual features, including excellent maps and articles. There are excellent colour photos breaking up the text columns, so you can see what you are looking for. It is a handy up-to-date guidebook, with all the usual topics a tourist guide provides, as well as chapters on the top ten sites (Faro; Tavira; Silves; Monchique; Loule; Lagos; Parque Natural da Ria Formosa; Sagres; Albufeira; Vila Real & Castro Marim).

The Contents include -
P007: The Algarve's Top 10
P070: Around the Algarve
P111: Streetsmart (practical touristy information)
P122: Places to Stay
P132: General Index
P142: Phrase Book

Packed with information about the Algarve, this travel guide arrived in perfect condition! I love reading through it and cant wait to take it with us when we go, there's a little pull out map at the back in case you don't want to take it out of the hotel room but its not too big, just the right size and could easily fit into even a clutch bag or a fanny pack!

If you plan to make Portugal a regular holiday destination, go for the all singing, all dancing DK guide to your destination. If this is a one off and you only need basic info, this book will suffice. I have quite a few DK travel guides and would definitely recommend them over other travel guides.

I have a confession.
I bought this book under duress when, while waiting at the airport for a recent flight to Portugal, I realised I had forgotten ALL of my Portuguese/Portugal books!

This DK guide to the Algarve is totally NOT something I would usually buy but it was absolutely well worth the money and I'm VERY glad I had forgotten my other books now!

It has lots of brief information about beaches, eateries, towns, churches, shopping, nightlife and loads more.

The maps are very useful (and one of the rare time I've even FOUND a Silves map!) and I can absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting the Algarve!

Even if you're moving there (like we are) don't dis-count it! It's a great reference!

What a fantastic book! I would highly recommend. I did lots of research in the book before we went, so it saved us time on the holiday. The maps are great. We used it every day and it helped us driving and walking round. We will be returning to the Algarve, it was a great holiday and we will definitely be taking this book again.

Attractively presented and practical too - with its useful fold-out maps and "flaps" - this is a decent guide to the Algarve. Don't expect depth or divergence from the "usual" venues and suggested activities. But what it does, it does clearly and accessibly. Information is (usually) accurate; book is portable, easy to use, good value for money and survives well in a pocket or bag. Recommended as a first introduction.
