Power in your palm
The grip on the Osmo is precisely engineered with materials selected for comfort and durability, and designed to ergonomically fit the palm of your hand. Conveniently placed buttons and controls keep important functions by your thumb for instant access.
Put your smartphone in the included Phone Holder to see what your camera sees and control it with a tap of your finger. Your phone is also the home of all the Osmo’s powerful intelligent shooting modes.
Intelligent Sleep Mode
Put down the Osmo, and it automatically enters into sleep mode after a set amount of time. This not only extends the Osmo’s battery life, but also increases the lifespan of its advanced electronics. When you wake up the Osmo, it’s ready to go.
All of DJI's Smart Shooting modes can be controlled and triggered by remote control from within the DJI GO app on your smartphone. Mount the Osmo on a tripod, or any of the other available mounts, and take a few steps back to a position from where you can easily overlook the scene and control the camera.
The world in 360°
The Automatic Panorama mode makes shooting 360° panoramas easier than ever. Just hold the Osmo up above your head and tap the shutter button. The camera will rotate, capturing images as it goes while staying completely level. Don’t just get a snapshot of a piece of your travels. Make a memory of the whole scene.
In addition to the integrated microphone, the Osmo package includes the DJI FM-15 Flexi Microphone. With advanced controls like audio gain settings, you can be sure you’re not only getting the shot but also capturing the sound.

1. It does its job. Stabilises well, shoots good 4K-quality video. Quite ok in syncing with the phone.
2. It has a good grip. Not too heavy for me personally.
1. Battery is absolutely weak. I got roughly 20 minutes of footage and that was it. Most of the time I took was to calibrate the gimbal, sync the device, adjust the settings in the DJI app etc. This is disastrous when I want to save battery by turning it off. It will take a while to get everything organised once again.
2. It heats up to a ridiculous level when used for a long time. If I want to make travel videos or any other projects, this will be a problem. Also, I have kids so this is not so family-friendly.
The first thing I did on getting the product was to install all the updates from DJI as I've got experience of this with the drones. The build quality of the device is superb and the case it comes with offers superb protection from damage although in my opinion it's a little useless really because you would need another case to carry even an extra battery (that you will almost certainly need). Setting it up and getting it ready to go is very simple and as long as you have your iOS or Android Smartphone and the DJI Go App you're pretty much ready to go.
The quality of the outdoor photos and video is very good and anyone who has a DJI drone will know because it's essentially the same. This of course means that if you intend to use the Osmo indoors, you'll be disappointed because the low light is poor to say the least. My favourite feature is the 360 photos you can take and these work really well but this is where things fall apart a little for me. It is extremely erratic at times and will just start flipping around for no apparent reason and cause no end of frustration.
Another issue includes the audio being very poor as it just picks up all the humming from the gimbal so you must use an external mic but then it begs the question how? Well, it has a 'mic in' but you would need to buy an accessory to mount it (I couldn't find one anywhere yet) and then because there's only 1 place to mount accessories you wouldn't be able to mount your smartphone for the viewfinder?
All in all, I decided to return mine because I can just see clearly that DJI will be releasing an Osmo 2 in no time at all that is going to have to address all the shortcomings that make it a great toy at the moment that will give hours of fun but is of no use professionally at all. At over £500 I'm afraid it's just over priced for what it can do.
UPDATE: I've updated this with a 5* now having read of the updates and taking a second look. The new firmware updates have significantly improved this for me, it's the best under £500 stabilised camera you can buy. The erratic nature appears to have gone, the noise that used to make it useless is now gone as soon as you hit the record button and the general quality of footage for a camera with gimbal at this price is outstanding. You do need to spend some time setting it up and learning how to use it properly but it rewards you well if you put that effort in. We've bought a few accessories such as the mount for a car and the footage at 50mph from the car is simply incredible. The fact that the driver can just drive while the passenger sits with the iPad controlling the camera with 360 degrees of view is outstanding. At the new price of under £500, it's a bargain and as the accessories come out it will only get better. My only criticism is the crazy situation of not being able to get batteries anywhere in the UK for up to 6 weeks. If you live in the USA there are no such problems so I don't understand that at all and DJI should be doing something about it QUICKLY.
- Watch some set up tutorials on YouTube (DJI have about 5, 2minute videos showing you how to unlock the gimbals)
- When you've connected the DJI GO app to the Osmo, calibrate the gimbal. It's so useful as it will make the operation a lot smoother.
- Bend your knees when you walk with the Osmo so as to alleviate the up and down bounce of your walk.
- For super fluid shots, put the Osmo into flash-light mode. Simply hold up like a torch, double tap the trigger and you're good to go!
Hope you found this review helpful (let me know).
Second Osmo, from Amazon direct. The microsd card gets stuck too often, very difficult to remove the card. I have to use a knife to remove it. I had similar issues with my Phantom 3 standard. Also, the camera goes off centre too often and has to be manually corrected with the joystick.
It is ok to use, I tried with my iphone 6s plus, a bit heavy to use with this, better to buy the arm extender (£20) and reattach the phone mount for central mounting. I bought a cheap 5" android phone and it is a bit better to use. Also the Iphone 6s plus is a little large and tight with any case on it.
