I ordered one of these to test an earthing sheet I recently purchased. I thought the price was great (the cheapest I could find) and it was exactly what I needed. The device was dead and would not turn on, I spoke to the seller who kindly sent a replacement however this one has also arrived dead. Very disappointing and quite confused as to why they are not checked before being despatched. Good customer service however wouldn’t recommend buying this product

The Unit:
The main body of the unit is seems reasonably well built, with the exception of the flimsy plastic cover over the display and the back stand (which is unnecessary anyway). The selector dial gives a good solid click between settings and the probes are just average cheap items, but perfectly good for occasional use.
As with other users experience, the battery was dead on arrival (and the unit set to on) necessitating a replacement battery. Great care needs to be exercised after removing the two screws so as not to break the internal clips at the top of the meter and I elected not to remove the back cover, just crack it open enough to remove and replace the battery.
Display backlight is a nice addition, its a shame it doesn't have a toggle switch as four seconds isn't very long to take a reading (but then how often do you need to use a multimeter in the dark?).
Continuity buzzer worked fine with a constant regular tone and though it's not very loud, it's good enough.
Hold button works and seems solid.
The orange rubberised cover for the unit is as cheap as they come, but does its job despite the laughable quality of it's finish.(I assume this is the 'gift box' mentioned in the insstructions??)

Usage:
I ran the meter through a few DC voltage, continuity and resistance tests and they all gave results I would have expected. The hFE (for testing transistors) and AC voltage were not tested. I doubt I will ever use the hFE and for AC a non contact tester would be preferable such as those made by Fluke.
Fluke 1AC-II VoltAlert voltage detector or Fluke 2AC Multi-TesterCAT IV 1000 V .

Misc:
Manufacturers packaging was awful (no wonder some units arrive with faults/dead), just a polythene bag.
Instructions were basic, but then should you be messing with electrical items without some prior knowledge?.
Youtube will give you in excess of 130k results for "how to use a multimeter" and an internet search will provide many tutorials and PDF manuals.

Awarded 4/5. Its not the best, but it does the job and it cost very little. I wouldn't want it to be something I relied on day in day out, but for occasional use its just the job.

I cross checked with a battery charger reading which indicated voltage somewhere between the two.

Seems very accruate but the quality of the wires is poor! The black prong came away from the cable on first use, but still works when you push the black cable back in... Could have refunded it, but wanted it for one thing at the time and never got round to it. So yeah! Does its job, but be gentle... ha

It is handy for checking wires, switches, fuses, batteries etc. Probably used a couple of times a year but like plasters, you hope you never have to use it but very grateful it's always there in the drawer.

I am amateur electrician doing odd wiring jobs as the need arises, my previous tester gave up the ghost some time ago so I decided to upgrade to a proper multimeter. I saw this meter which seemed to fit the bill, the price was right and the reviews were good. The unit came with in two days and was everything as advertised, it has a good protection back cover which should keep it safe, the down side for me was the instruction sheet which came with it which assumes that I was fully conversant with all the electrical symbols on the unit and that I already understood how to use it. Not too much of a drawback though as you can work it out. All in all a good buy.

No auto shut off so means flat batteries, but cheaper than my other meters which do, so I suppose that's the price you pay. Just have to be more careful. Only for occasional use so I have painted "SHUT OFF" on the case.
