HASH(0x9c3a6738) out of 5 stars A geat idea in theory but... 30 April 2008
By LRH and DTH - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My sister and I have an extensive collection of interracial romance novels, specific to the BW/WM genre. When she read the description of this book she was intrigued by the concept behind the book (years ago a similar true story was on Oprah) so she invested in this book. However, the problem with the book is that rather than being a novel or even a "story" it reads as an outline. The dialogue is limited and repetitive. Often the wrong word is used, in some cases words are "created" it seems, to try and make the book seem more intellectual than it is. I don't believe it was edited by anyone except for the author. I am by no means trying to be cruel or mean, and I applaud the author's effort to find a new angle, but I don't want anyone else to fall victim to what I can only honestly describe as a painful experience. It became clear even before I was able to research more about the author, that he could not be writing from the perspective of a white man that has fallen in love with a black woman; or from the perspective of a black woman who has fallen in love with a white man, because neither points of view are represented realistically. I am only being honest by saying it was awful, and that perhaps the author could research the subject matter more thoroughly. In addition I would suggest that he should revisit the "storytelling aspect", and add some dialogue and some romance...in the romance novel. I read the book from cover to cover hoping, (even rooting) that the story would somehow get better and redeem itself...sadly it does not. Buyer Beware!

Although the subject matter of this novel was intriguing, the novel itself was a great disappointment. It was very simply written and had a very juvenile feel to it. I thought the characters were going to be older but I think the protagonist wasn't even old enough for college yet. I don't know what the fix to this could have been (besides a better author) but it certainly didn't live up to any of my expectations. I sent it back for a refund.

This is not a story, it is a narrative from the male's side. The narrative has very little dialogue, but the point is clear. He fell in love and she loved him back. They lived happily after ever.
If you are a collector, get this for record sake. If not, get it from the library.

HASH(0x9c1e6edc) out of 5 stars Avidreader 26 Jun. 2008

The writing style of this romance is a clear departure from the more popular style. However the story was engaging and the characters were interesting. I liked that the story was written like a diary written by the male lead character, Ted. While there isn't a lot of dialogue between characters, the description and interpretation writing of events painted a clear picture and moved the story along. What makes this story most interesting to me is that the romance and love between Ted and his Princess was not driven by sexual attraction but by a pure and innocent love.

I highly recommend this book for those looking for a good romance that isn't driven by a lot of sex and sexual tension.

This book really kept me glued to the pages which I found to be a very interesting and pleasing deviation from what I expected. I was surprised that it kept my interest to the very end without having to resort to heavy sexual content. I feel the author did a remarkable job in telling a story that translated so easily into visual images and made me feel present, as if I was observing the characters as their story unfolded. Reading this book was time well spent - It has my recommendation. Who is this CA Joseph? I hope to see more of his work.
