I have fallen deeper down the Darcy Walker hole than I ever thought possible and I don't want to be rescued. I am irrevocably and emotionally involved with this fictional character and her shenanigans. I absolutely love her, her snarkiness, her wit, her innocence, and her aloofness. Darcy Walker is a force to be reckoned with and doesn't take s-h- you know what from anyone, especially if they are in the business of harming people. She doesn't consider herself high and mighty; she just wants people to behave the way that she would. She sees herself as a verb: an action, a state, an occurrence. This is a unique and redeeming quality because when you get into the kind of things she does, a noun couldn't handle it. It takes a special kind of person to deal with it.

This installment of Darcy Walker is one of the most intense and emotional stories to date. Darcy is battling with her inner demons and her feelings for her best-friend-turned-boyfriend Dylan Taylor. She's trying to handle both of them without any repercussions to her family and friends. But at what cost? If she lives her life like the verb she is, she's sure to make Dylan regret getting involved with her. Yet, if she conforms and becomes a noun, then she will regret Dylan's love for her. She must try to find a balance between them both without hurting her family and her best friend. She must also do this while trying to stay alive, because when you are a verb, there is no shortage of drama.

A.J. Lape has created a truly unique character with Darcy Walker. There isn't another character that I can think of that has the same depth, humanity, and realism that she does. You can tell that A.J. has a great passion for these stories and personalities because they ooze with emotion and rawness.

I can not honestly remember how I came across reading this series but I remember after reading the first book I needed to get it on paperback.
The whole series is so different from what I normally read but I have to say that this book is in a league of its own.
Darcy Walker is a character that I love. She acts without thinking and can get bored so easily.
On the outside Darcy can come across as having a hard shell but on the inside is a scared and insecure girl. In this book we get to see this vulnerability really show.
There are so many questions answered in this book.
I cried - a lot - with this book. I cried because of what was going on, what Darcy was saying, when Dylan cried. Now let me tell you about Dylan. At the beginning of this entire series I was not his biggest fan. In fact he annoyed the heck out of me because I thought of him as a control freak but after reading this series..... wow. I wanted to give him a hug and tell him everything will be okay.I wanted to hug Darcy and tell her not to worry and that she is a brave girl.
Ivy I wanted to shake. Seriously the girl annoys me but this book made me pity her.
Jagger made me think ooooo scary.
Ben.... well Ben.... what a fantastic character.
This series is truly one of the best series I have read in my lifetime. The author seems to have poured her heart and soul into this book and after every book I always wonder how she could top the last. This book was no exception.
Honestly I am sitting here now, after reading it, and wondering what to do next.
Darcy's world is truly a place you want to be part of. You can easily get lost in her world.
Thank you A.J Lape for this fantastic series. I series that I don't want to end and a series I would love to see as a movie.

Let me just say that I love AJ Lape's brain!!!! OMG, this book was AWESOME! AJ has such a gift, she makes Darcy feel like a real person. It's not often that I physically WORRY about a fictional character! I worried before I even started the book, lol, I believe it was 100 Proof Stud that I actually caught myself starting to pray for her...and let me tell you, I'm religious, but not THAT religious! I just knew this book was going to be even more stressful. I don't know why I put myself through the stress, but in the end, it's always worth it. Darcy is such a spectacle, the crazy things she gets herself into, just wow! I just love that even in the most dire of circumstances, she keeps her sense of humor...I don't think I could do it. When AJ told those of us in her street team that Darcy would find info out about her mother, wow, this is SO not what I had in mind! Such an unexpected twist, totally didn't see that one coming! OMG, I can't even tell you! If you haven't read one of AJ's books, you're SOOOO missing out. The first book in the Darcy Walker Series is FREE right now! Her books are amazing and she has such a gift, I don't even understand how she's still Indy, Traditional publishers should be beating down her door! 5.0 out of 5 stars Holy crap balls! 27 Feb. 2015

This installment of Darcy Walker is intense to put it mildly. Darcy does some growing up and maturing in this book. She's still dealing with her mother's murder and can't get her head around her relationship with Dylan. Some very big and scary things happen in Defcon Darcy that leave you on the edge of your seat and holding your breath. There were times when I was reading that I would forget to breathe. I also got scared a time or two when I was trying to figure out how Darcy was going to get out of the particular predicament that she had gotten herself into. I never figured anything out ahead of time and was always surprised when things were revealed. AJ does a fantastic job at keeping things hidden until she wants them seen. That is one of my favorite things about this series, besides Darcy herself.

I have loved Darcy Walker from the get go. She is a snarky little spitfire of a gal and has majorly large cajones. She fights for the underdog because she is one herself. She has a band of misfits as her family because they are just like her. She's inquisitive by nature and doesn't want anyone to be taken advantage of or hurt. She's passionate, strong, sarcastic, and someone you want in your corner. I love her and wish she were real because we could all use a little Darcy Walker in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book of the series - Left me Speechless 30 Aug. 2015
By Julie Cassar - Published on Amazon.com

Wow, wow, wow. I can honestly say that I wasn't prepared for the story that unfolded in this fourth book of the series. This is, by far, the best book of the series and the author has proven herself to be a master of words in this heart-wrenching tale. AJ Lape pays extra close attention to detail and delivers yet another intelligently written mystery that will leave you either gasping, cheering or crying. At times, I found myself frustrated at Darcy's lack of self confidence and trust in her friend/boyfriend Dylan, but the author really pushed the limits in this book and we see a tremendous amount of growth in Darcy as we are taken on an unexpected journey of emotional turmoil. The subject matter in this book is horrifying and tragic, and I found myself a blubbering, snotty mess as I cried the tears Darcy and Dylan cried, felt their love and laughter when they felt it, and finally, rejoiced in the conclusion and unexpected resolution to the 7-year struggle Darcy has been on. I don't feel my review is clearly covering the magnitude of this book, as I was beyond speechless when I read the final 30% of the book, and stayed up until 4:30 in the morning to finish it. I truly LOVE Darcy and Dylan and the characters they have matured and grown into, and I hope we see them continue on the path that the author has so deftly drawn for us in this book. I hope that if a reader was not that into the story or characters by the end of book one, they'll do themselves a favor and skip ahead and read this book. As with any good series, it gives a lot of back information making it easy for a new reader to catch on to what's happened and who the characters are. With this book, that I dare say is GENIUS, AJ Lape has truly established herself as not only an extremely talented, 5-star mystery writer, and also a true master of romantic, gut-wrenching novel writing. I will go on record saying this book will knock any Nicholas Sparks book out of the water.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Crack! 9 Mar. 2016
By Virginia Gray - Published on Amazon.com

I’m a Darcy Walker addict, and was totally enjoying DEFCON Darcy, laughing at the hilarious dialogue, snorting at her obnoxious classmates, and loving her blooming romance with Dylan. But this light-heated romp suddenly turned dark. Midway along the "Yay, I love these Darcy rollercoaster rides!", I found myself at the top of a "Holy crap, this is a seriously scary drop!". Darcy is plunged into a dark and terrifying world unlike anything she's experienced before. So chilling in parts, I swear, I wanted to reach into the story and pull her out myself. Sinister doesn’t begin to describe the characters, and moreover, the ways in which they torture her. In Darcy’s words, the situation is completely FUBAR. This story was raw, fantastic, and heart-wrenching, and I need another fix as soon as possible. READ THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars In love with the whole series ♡ 24 Sept. 2015

I loved the whole series, but this one rounds everything out. The layers are peeled back and the soul is laid bare, I enjoyed every minute. The shiz got real and the ending was excellent. Everything I want in a book/series. Flirts, teasing cliffhangers, creative language, hard subjects, despair and hope, life changing relationships, family, rock solid love, strength of personal character. Thank you, A.J. Lape, for writing this wonderful series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Darcy Walker even if sometimes you wanna shake some sense into her 24 Feb. 2015

Darcy is back and is on full speed self destruct mode. The plot is thicker than ever and her relationship with Dylan is about to implode. She'll need some therapy for sure after she starts nosing around her newest case and finds herself closer to death than ever before. If you liked the other books you'll love this one. This was the more emotional and action pact the the others combine.

This is not a stand alone although she does a good job filling in back story but still if you haven't read the first three, I highly recommend reading them first.
