Manufacturer's Description

J27 classical guitar strings are great for beginners and students. The set contains 3 clear nylon trebles and 3 silverplated copper wound on nylon basses for warm, long lasting tone.

Silver on Nylon Explained
Bare round copper wire is electroplated with pure sterling silver and wound on multifilament nylon.

Clear Nylon Explained
Single strand extruded nylon commonly used for the treble strings on classical guitars, and ukuleles.

When do I change my strings?
Don’t wait until they break! The frequency you should change strings depends on how often you play, how you play, and in what conditions your instrument is played and stored. Active performers may need to change their strings on a weekly basis or even more often if they suffer from acidic perspiration. Occasional players may take months to wear out a set. Most players change strings when they lose their brilliance, sound too mellow, when intonation falters or when their instrument is difficult to keep in tune. Changing one string after it breaks is not recommended as the newer string will be brighter-sounding than the rest of the set.

How can I clean my strings?
Hand perspiration and dirt build-up are the main culprits that shorten string longevity. Wipe strings down with a clean cloth after each session. For those of you with more acidic perspiration, wipe strings down with Planet Waves String Cleaner.

Which string set is for me?
Whether choosing electric, acoustic, classical or other strings, the right string tension for your style is a matter of trial and error and is of utmost importance. Experimenting with different tensions can bring out a completely different character and sound of your instrument and in the style of your play. You should not assume that the string tension the guitar manufacturer selected at the factory is the right tension for you.

Custom blending of light and medium sets or extra light and light sets is also an option. For example the EXL140 set combines the trebles of a regular light electric set with the basses of a jazz EJ21 set. This allows easy bending of treble strings with the heftier bass response of the heavier EJ21 strings.

Light gauge strings are the most popular and are recommended by most makers. Lighter overall string tension ensures longer soundboard and neck life. Heavier tensions are not recommended for guitars built with fragile tops. Medium gauge strings offer more projection on heavier built instruments.

Classical sets are gauged in light, normal, hard and extra hard tensions. Although the total pull of classical strings is much less than their steel string counterparts, the string height is set higher on classical guitars. This fact makes the tension difference critical.

I have a Valencia guitar, probably the cheapest on the market, and this string brought my experience into another whole new level. Strings are as important as the instrument itself. The bass strings sound very sharp and the all the strings respond very quickly to the strokes. However, their vibrations are a bit exaggerated and making the treble strings to overcome the bass ones is a bit of a challenge. Perfect for Spanish classical genre. I have never heard Asturias (for an example) sounding so powerful and colourful as with these strings. Definitely will buy the same package [at least the same brand] again.

These strings are ok, not great, but absolutely fine for my purposes - testing an old guitar before restoration work. Some comments note that the wound strings are too bright compared with the nylons and this is true, although they do sound very good. Other comments note that the strings don't stay in tune, especially the nylons. This is also true, but no more than any other classical strings take to bed down. They stretch for days depending on how much playing you do. I've bought [and reviewed] very cheap Chinese classical strings on Amazon before and those took forever to stretch and stay in tune, so these are excellent by comparison. All-in-all the strings are fine for the job I bought them to do [and the Amazon price looks fine too]. I paid more than the Amazon price because I bought them from a local music shop. I was in a hurry to test an old Boosey & Hawkes 'Vittoro' 3/4 body, full scale-length Spanish guitar I bought in a charity shop for £5 - less than these strings cost me. It was in a bad state and needing a new saddle and nut, but I wasn't going to do any work until I'd strung it and tested playability and sound. Guitar and strings passed the test.

As a fan of most of D'd's products I tried these on an old classical guitar. They are certainly better than the cheapy ones that were fitted to it before and once tuned and stretched are pretty good at staying in tune. Would buy again.

These strings sounded nice and bright out of the packet. They took a while to get tuned up, as usual, but not a true problem. However, the D-string snapped spontaneously within a couple of days - not even when i was playing it. A real surprise, and disappointing. I've never had a new string just snap before. I would recommend spending slightly more money and getting a better version.

This is the first time i have bought strings online, I have been playing guitar for 20 years, never have I come across strings sounding so lifeless. Normally new strings sound vibrant and full. These sounded dull, very flat and lacking any warmth at all.Strings snapped after very gentle tunning.

Good price and fine for my purposes as an amateur guitarist. I find my classic guitar hard to play as the nut is quite big and the saddle is coming away a little (!) - it's old and I inherited it like that... so I just wanted it playable again as all the strings were old and one had snapped. This did the job great.

Quality strings, good delivery. These strings have a really nice feel and sound great. I usually buy ball end strings but I forgot. I'm glad though because I learned how to do the noose thingy and it turns out its super easy and I think I might just forget the ball ends from now on.

What a difference these strings made to my guitar! Lacklustre dead sound from old tarnished strings. Suddenly the guitar comes alive with loud bright tone! The strings tuned up and stabilised quite quickly. That period, particularly on the B string, where you are turning the tuning peg and the note stays the same as the nylon stretches, was mercifully short. (Not so with my Alice multi-coloured strings) These are good quality strings at a great price.
