I like this book. It reminds me of that thing that they used to have on the Television, “Randall and Hopkirk (deceased).” Before them out of “Shooting Stars” did it. I mean back in the seventies with Mike Pratt in it. They both feature a dead detective, who attempts to solve crimes from beyond the grave.
Of course stuff like that interests me, what with me being dead these past 18 years.
Any road, Unlike “Randall and Hopkirk,” this book features a woman detective, who does not continue working with her ex partner, but teams up with the other victims of her murderer to try and make sure he never strikes again.
Its funny in places as well as thrilling, and by the end, I was completely wrapped up in the suspense of it all. I could imagine it being a decent programme on the television an’all, as long as we didn’t give it to the ruddy Yankees to mess up, or at least not until we had made a series of it on our own. I would like to see that big lass out of “Call the Midwife” in it, as the posh character “Bim,” You know who I mean... Miranda Wright, or something. They would have to get twins to play the detective, because she has a twin sister. I would definitely watch it after reading the book.
To be honest with you, Lauren isn’t too bad at explaining what goes on after you die as well. I wonder if she has any insider knowledge. She mentions death as being just one stage in the human journey and also mentions the next stage being “the light” which is essentially what I would call “The Meld” “If you go into the light, you don’t come back...” she says, “...You go to a higher dimension, another plane perhaps.” She also mentions that there is no Judgement in the light, which is true of The Meld.

DI Ghost is an unusual story as the lead heroine doesn't know she is dead until a little way into the book. The other characters were, in turn, funny and heartrendingly sad. The children were portrayed in a very believeable way in their ability to see ghosts and relate to them as normal. The main story was a good idea and well executed. If you like mysteries you will probably like this one. Well done Ms White.

This crime thriller with a novel twist is a real page turner and I finished the book in a couple of days. It captured my attention from the very beginning as it slowly, and with humour, revealed the twist in the tale and introduced a set of interesting characters drawing me in and leaving me wanting to know more about their lives and their deaths!

Yes, half the cast in this book are dead but that doesn't stop you warming to them and hoping that these victims manage to get their own back on the serial killer responsible for their fates. Kate is the gutsy heroine determined to see justice done who leads the women victims on an exciting murder trail. We get to know more about Kate's past life, her family ties, her lost loves and her regrets. I would recommend this book to everyone, and I only hope that Lauren White decides to write a sequel.

Really liked the main character, Kate, a.k.a DI Ghost. A really clever & inventive idea. You warmed to her character and really wanted her to find a happy ending. Nicely set up for a sequel too & I hope in the future there will be one. I would buy it. My only constructive criticism would be on the formatting. There are no chapters and so when reading on a kindle, it wasn't always clear when a scene had ended. I found myself having to flick back to the previous page to check whether the place/time/scene had changed. Slightly irritating but not enough to stop me reading. Overall, a good story.

I really loved this book, from start to finish, loved the main characters. It is really well written, only thing I found a bit irrating was there didn't appear to be any chapters, so like a previous reviewer I had to keep going back, but it wasn't that much of a problem. Also found it odd that the ghosts could use computers etc. but then I thought if you could believe that the ghosts are real, you have to take it all on board. Its funny in places, quite a bit of tension and also sadness, especially about the relationship with D I Ghost and her living cop partner.

Can't wait for the next book, I purchased the other book the author has written, but I haven't read that yet.

The D I Ghost book is going to be in paper back so I will get that too, think this author is one to watch for the future.

I read a lot of detective stories and this is one with a difference. The first thing I noticed was how well it is written, engaging the reader right from the start. The concept of a ghost as protagonist is a useful device as it provides a vehicle for her to move freely, eavesdropping on important conversations and changing locations quickly. The obstacle provided by this device is cleverly overcome with a little suspension of disbelief. The heroine is strongly drawn - feisty and amusing. The plot is pacey although at the end the author seems to feel a need to explain which I didn't find strictly necessary. The prospect of other stories in the series is well set up. All in all this was an enjoyable read - and I don't believe in ghosts!
