About the Author
Tom Fenton has been riding mountain bikes for over 10 years, all over the UK and around Europe. As author of Mountain Biking Trail Centres - The Guide, Tom is probably the only person to have ridden every waymarked, man-made MTB trail in the UK. Tom is also the author of Cycling in the Peak District and has contributed to several of Vertebrate Publishing's bestselling mountain biking titles, including Lake District Mountain Biking and South West Mountain Biking.Jon Barton lives in Sheffield on the edge of the Peak District, with his wife, young son and novelty show dog. Having ridden and climbed in the area for almost 20 years his knowledge of the Peak, and particularly the Hope Valley, is enviable. After the shackles of fame that came with authoring the original Dark Peak Mountain Biking guidebook, Jon had to improve his MTB skills somewhat. Now proficient at singletrack, and merely nervous of descents, his ambition still remains to clean the notorious climb up Gores Heights (Lockerbrook). Catch him there most weekends for book signings. Don't be put off by the blue language, or his disproportionately large calves, he's really approachable and surprisingly down to earth.

Contained within the route guides are interesting snippets of history and information about the scenery seen on that particular ride. The routes are well graded, with information such as distance and ascent accompanied by useful facts such as local pubs and cafes. For the family rider, as well as a full section of rides particularly suited to families, many of the other routes have a small paragraph of information about the suitability of the ride for for younger riders.
Although the maps included lack the detail of some of the other guide books in the range, they are clear and easy to read for even an inexperienced map reader, and a clear list of instructions mean you should never be lost. As with all V-Publishing's books, the guide is wonderfully illustrated, with photographs capturing the true beauty of the Peak District.
