When my Doctor told me that I had a cholesterol level of 6.9 I was reluctant to go onto statins as he recommended. The information I was given by the NHS was very high level and to be honest, vague. I started hunting around for more information. This book came to my rescues as it seems to give all the latest information with explanations and in a fairly simple format. It does not however give you a prescription or your menu for the week, so you do need to put some work in. It does however, tell you what is good and what is bad (and why).
As somebody else commented, at a top level it doesn't give much more info than you get every day ( i.e. eat more veg and exercise) but I really read it carefully and began to understand the core problems and solutions and started to implement the recommendations.
The result was that I eat well (I never feel hungry), enjoy my food, I have finally got down to my target weight and my total cholesterol after 3 months was down to 4.9. I hope this helps and good luck.

This is an excellent book and an almost no-brain purchase if you have Amazon prime

No throwaway booklet, this is an in depth study of the causes and treatment of high cholesterol. Ms Brewer appears to be an academic and the book certainly exudes authority and clarity. What suited me was that, instead of simplifying the science by omitting details, she actually clarifies it and leaves one with a really good grasp of whats actually going on.

In terms of contents I guess its the same as all the others eg definitions, causes, risk factors, diet, statins followed by a thorough plan for reducing LDL, increasing HDL in 12 weeks

I bought 3 books on being diagnosed with high LDL.

The other 2 were longer books, but this is the one that has stuck.

I found this a very simple to understand book, full of good advice and check my progress and re read sections quite often. In the first (one) month I have reduced my weight by 9 lbs, reduced my cholesterol from 9 to 6.2 and moved my belt tighter by 3 holes. Not a difficult regime just common sense. I admit to not filling in all of the charts but I do keep an eye on all factors. KEEP it to hand for reference from time to time.

I have now ordered three of these books, and given them to friends, who, like me, have found themselves with a high cholesterol level. This book, gives lots of valuable information, that helps you to know what foods can help to lower cholesterol and what foods can cause the levels to increase. Very informative material that also helps to see how Statins are not always the answer.

This is a good little book, generally presented well with cartoons to humour the issues and discussion. The only drawback is the designer of the book forgot that reading text at below 9pt is actually quite difficult. Interestingly I've bought a number of other books and all seem to contradict each other when it comes to a variety of advice and benefits to help (e.g. supplements such as garlic and lecithin, exercise and LDL, methods of removal of cholesterol from the body).

This is a very clearly laid out book.

It is extremely helpful with straightforward language and useful tables and advice.
In particular it is an easy and absorbing read, and with very practical steps to take, with positive language for action.

I am very impressed indeed. The Author is to be congratulated.
Anybody who reads this text will feel rewarded in learning, and encourged to take useful and deliberate action.
