I found 17 year old Cass very easy to connect to. She's in her final year of school and thinking about university. She's not into partying and socialising. She's happy to work at her part time job, finish her home work and spend time with her best friend Neve.
A descision to attend the schools Christmas party as opportunities like it are running out, starts a series of events. Some pleasant and some very unpleasant. But all of which influence the person Cass is becoming.
The relationship between Cass and Neve and Cass and her mom make wonderful reading. This book is set in and around Birmingham, UK.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in these series.
I was luck enough to meet the lovely nicola in leeds at a book signing and i purchased curve. Wow im so happy i did! This book touches on a very common and highly sensitive issue. It was an amazing read. I highly recommend this. It was so well written and Im love with flynn. He is such an AMAZING character! I hope we have a catch up with them throughout heart. Well done nicola! X
A fabulous first effort from Ms Hudson and one to certainly look out for in the future.
The book takes us through a difficult time for our leading lady Cass- following an unprovoked sexual assault the book handles well both the social and emotional fall out of such an event, Including the unfortunate sutiation with the burden of proof.
The Characters were well rounded and had plenty of depth and personality.
Cass is portayed as a strong young woman, comfortable in her own skin but easily taken in by the attention of Rob. Cass has the support of her best friend Neve who I warmed too through out the book.
Cass falls in love with Neve's brother Flynn - what an absolute sweetheart! He steps in originally to prevent Rob from gaining the kudos of the Rugby team by tricking Cass into a photograph and rescues her again when Rob approaches her again at her family store. He is one of good guys. His good night text messages every night to Cass following her attack, even though she has retracted from him were so sweet and his last email to her reduced me to tears - I was happy to see that they managed to find their way back to each other.
The author has left room I feel for a follow up novel and I would love to hear more of their story.
First Class job for a First Novel!!
This book deals with some very complex topics and lots of emotion & I feel that the author really conveys the emotions really well in the book.
I really liked Cass (the main character) and was very keen to keep reading to find out what happened next.
I have got Nicola's other book, Heart, lined up to read next & I am very much looking forward to it.
I read this book in almost one sitting, I could not put it down and wanted to know how it would end.
The book does touch upon quite a sensitive subject, but it is handled so well. You feel like you are right there in the book, experiencing it too and facing the harsh realities of every aspect of Cass' plight. But that's not to say the book is depressing and all doom and gloom, there is the classic love story through out and there are strong supporting characters.
The best way to describe this book is heartbreakingly beautiful and I cannot recommend it enough.
