I've bought this 2 months ago on Amazon for the slick look after my one year old Tefal rice cooker packed up again. I had had 2 Tefal rice cookers and both lasted only about a year. I will never buy a Tefal rice cooker again. I had a liitle worry over the feedbacks by other customers at Amazon regarding overflow of water of Cuisinart rice cooker but couldn't resist the smart look. It's by far the best looking rice cooker currently on the marcket in my view. I am a rice eater(Sushi rice) and cook rice daily. It looks very smart in my kitchen and I have had absolutely no trouble getting water overflow. I cook rice my usual way: wash rice gently in water three times, add water slightly more than twice volume of rice, then leave it about one hour for the rice to soak up water(this is optional: it taste nicer and cooks faster by doing this.), then push the "Cook" button. That's it! I get perfect rice in 10 min. If I don't have time to soak rice in water, then leave cooked rice on "keep warm" function for longer, about 10 - 20 min. I get the perfect fluffy and soft, sticky suchi rice. I ignore the water mark in the cooker and put water just over twice of rice volume as I have been doing all my life. Easy! I am very happy with this purchase and hope it will last at least 5 years guarantee!

An excellent addition to the Kitchen if you like your rice. Easy to use and clean. The steam option is O.K. too, not that it's used that often. A recommendation should you purchase, follow supplied cooking instructions. However, once cooked, the longer you leave on the "stay warm" setting the better the texture of the rice (Firmer). Otherwise it can be a little soggy straight after it's initial cooking phase. You will not be disappointed.

I considered many rice cookers around this price range and read the reviews. I decided to buy the Cuisinart because of its 5 year guarantee.

This is a beautiful machine, very stylish and very unobtrusive on the kitchen counter. The rice is cooked beautifully, and I couldn't get enough of it! I did have some problems with it boiling over to start with though.

The only drawback I found is that the steamer tray has a deep groove running round the inside edge which is difficult to clean properly, also, the "lip" of the lid is quite deep (I assume to catch condensation) but it is also difficult to clean without a brush or pipe cleaner.

EDIT: Finally, after a week of trials and some internet research I have found out that the markers are inaccurate and lead to over boiling because there is too much water in the bowl. Use the cup that you use to measure the rice with to measure the water, inline with the amount of water recommended in the instructions, and all should be fine.

EDIT: Even more finally, I found that if you add a teaspoon of oil to the rice before you add the water, it won't even come close to boiling over. Hope that helps some of you guys out.

I have had this rice cooker for three and a half years and I have never had any water overflow problems as described by some reviewers.

A nice stylish unit which performs well although the build quiality is not quite up to the standards that its looks suggest! The main unit is fine, but the teflon on the bowl chips and flakes very easily so you must handle with care and I *always* hand wash it. The only problem we have had with it is that the heat seemed to crack the plastic thread on the lid handle. I fired an e-mail off to cuisinart who sent a new lid out. It's the same design but seems to have lasted much longer so far.

The steamer lid works well although I only tend to use it for the recipies in the book as opposed to doing some veg along with the rice. I probably should remember to use it more often and save a bit of energy.

The rice it cooks is perfect and like all kitchen appliances, you get to know it and so you can alter the quantities to get the texture you like or want. One tip I have always used for white basmati is to put the amount of rice you wanted in, then add water. Put your index finger in to just touch the top of the rice, and your first joint after your nail is where the water level should be. A little more if you want slightly softer rice.

I also rinse the rice under cold running water in a sieve. Depends on the type and opinion differs here but I personally find that the rice cooks and tastes better (white basmati especially). Partly for cleaning as well. Before you put the water in, I always stir the rice in a little oil witht the rice cooker on. You can go for ghee if you're feeling luxurious! Extras to chuck in can be bay leaves, cardamom pods and other whole spices.

I just HATE this product... especially considering the CO$T and the brand name, thought products were better than have had experience with...

Needs easy lift handles for BOTH the steam basket (?) and the pot, HOT and hard to handle!

No matter what I try, burns bottom rice (every type of rice I have cooked), sticky, turns hard, not fluffy as rice should be! Three speeds, ON, warm, off!

Boils, spits and foams over...

Hard to clean lid.

The two things I do LIKE: 1) storage cord 2) square and size is easy to store.
