I ordered the Crucial DDR3 RAM to upgrade the memory in my computer at work. It was running with a 2GB stick already and a spare slot beside it.

RAM comes in DDR1, DDR2 or DDR3 modules, if you are unsure what RAM type you need you can download the System Scanner from Crucial which will recommend the correct upgrade for you. ([...]). Don't worry if you buy the wrong type, it won't fit so there's no worry of damaging your computer. Amazon's return policy is such that it's really easy to do a swap.

The Amazon packaging is small enough to fit through your postbox so no trips to the Post Office if you're not in. Inside is the clear plastic Crucial packaging containing the RAM stick. Nice and minimal.

To install the RAM use a screwdriver to remove the side panel from your computer tower, once open look inside and locate a memory stick the same as your new one. There should be a slot to the side of it waiting for your new stick. Simply remove the RAM from the plastic packaging (try not to touch the gold connectors), line up the groove with the slot (it only goes in one way) and push until the clips on both side click into place. Put the side back on your computer and turn it on. You're done!

Since installing the RAM the computer is far snappier and handles multiple applications and tabs much easier. I've had no problems at all so far and along with the price I can only recommend this product to anyone wishing to upgrade.

I bought these for a new PC build before the requirements changed to 4gb sticks instead of 2gb. I therefore only had them for a short time but as typical crucial memory they work.. never had a problem with Crucial which is why I almost always buy them and why I will also choose their SSD drives when I buy them. I just recently opened an old case I had lying around which, up until a few weeks back, was still going strong after 7 years. Two sticks of 512mb Crucial meant that, back in the day that old beast was as fast anything around at the time.

Amazon were also kind enough to take these back and allow me to buy some Crucial 4gb sticks in exchange.

Crucial and Amazon.. you can't go wrong

My system came with a total of 6GB of RAM when I bought it nearly 3 years ago, which was not an unusual set-up for that time. This did not trouble me since I didn't expect to have to keep the unit for more than a couple of years. It was adequate for the tasks I performed.

However, a recession and 3 years later, without any obvious system upgrade about to take place, I decided to at least increase the RAM memory. I could have ripped out the original 6GB of RAM and replaced it with something more potent, but the original sticks of memory were (are) performing well and it didn't seem that matching that memory would be a bad thing.

I was right. The extra 6GB of RAM, carefully matched to the original specs, has proved to be the perfect upgrade which has now given my system a new lease of life.

The only thing I need now is an SSD

...thus what can possibly go wrong? It works and Amazon has offered a great price at some point which is where a bought a few sticks to put in my old PC. Granted only 1333MHz, but with old motherboards it doesn't really matter. For my new PC I went with G.Skill 2400MHz CL10 memory which is also great and always at a good price for a performance memory.

Just upgraded from having one of these to two, because they're just awesome! Very cheap, quick 2 day delivery (to Norfolk) and the packaging was very safe.

I've had one of these sticks for about 6 months and it hasn't gone wrong, just received this one today and hope it lasts just as long!

High praise for the guys at Crucial - BUY THIS!

This memory was purchased to take a Dell Inspiron 580 from its factory-installed 6 GB of RAM to its system maximum capacity of 8 GB.

RAM either works --or not-- upon installation. This RAM worked, and was immediately recognized by the BIOS and Windows 7 OS on the machine it was installed in.

    Good RAM; select with confidence.
