For Business | Secure Your Data. Protect Your Customers' Privacy
Your data is your competitive advantage. Whether it’s the inside information on your latest product or your customers' credit card numbers, information in the wrong hands has the potential to devastate your business. The best strategy for protecting your sensitive data is to implement a defence that includes top-level hardware-based encryption.
The Crucial M500 SSD is a self-encrypting drive (SED) based on the rigorous standards established by the TCG Opal specification. Combined with applications like Microsoft BitLocker or Wave Systems EMBASSY Trust suite, our AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine (that’s integrated into the controller of the Crucial M500) allows the drive to operate at full speed without the performance loss that’s typically associated with non-SED drives using software-based encryption technology.
For All Users | Consistently Fast Speeds. No Exceptions
No matter what kind of files you’re working with, on a Crucial SSD you’ll experience high speeds with no drop in performance across different file types. Crucial SSDs treat all files the same, regardless of whether they’re compressed or uncompressed. While many SSDs on the market achieve faster speeds by using file compression, many of the most common file types can’t be compressed, resulting in SSDs that often deliver slower speeds than advertised. This is important because the files most people use every day - videos, mp3s, advanced graphic files and zip files - are compressed files and thus unable to be compressed any further. With a Crucial SSD, the specs we advertise are the same specs you’ll see in the real world.
Crucial SSDs. Performance You Can Trust
Crucial is a brand of Micron, one of the largest NAND manufacturers in the world, and we design and develop our SSDs in-house using state-of-the-art technology. This means: hundreds of SSD qualification tests, more than 1,000 hours of pre-release validation testing, 1.5 billion dollars invested in R&D, and more than 30 years of industry expertise. We’re dedicated to quality and your SSD has been designed with cutting-edge technology and has been rigorously tested and approved. Don’t settle for anything less.

I purchased this to replace the old mechanical drive in my iMac. It was easy to swap over (once I'd got the iMac apart) and got the data transferred across. The great news is that this drive will absolutely transform your machine if you are coming from a mechanical hard drive. This thing is easily x10 faster and will make your machine feel like new. My iMac is 10 years old and was soooo slow but now it behaves like a brand new one!
Absolutely fabulous upgrade and everyone with a mechanical hard drive should upgrade to SSD immediately and I can highly recommend Crucial as a fast and reliable brand.
The drive installed quickly with no additional drivers required on Windows 7 64 bit and W7 was installed quickly and easily. The drive has a very good reputation for speed and reliability. I can't attest to the reliability as I've only had it a few days., However, the speed is awesome. No need to sleep your PC now - just reboot it in a few seconds. No waiting around for any apps either - great performance from my new PC now. As it's a standard 2.5" size, it would make a great replacement laptop drive as well.
Excellent product with good support, a good reputation/review and fantastic performance. 5/5
Reinstalled windows and programs on this drive and it kicks @ss...although it is my first SSD so bear that in mind!
Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 open in a couple of seconds and shutdown/restart times are miles better than they were on a normal spindle drive. BTW my specs are: i5-2500k, 16gb RAM, GTX660SC.
The only thing I haven't installed on the SSD are games as I delete them when completed so I felt they were better on a spindle drive. However, saying that, for some reason they are still quick to load up...and quicker than when I didn't have a SSD installed. That might be all psychological though!
PROBLEM: the only thing I found was that when restarting the pc, especially after windows updates, it quite often produces a "disk read error" and you have to constantly cycle through a restart procedure a few times to clear it. At times, you may have to enter bios and exit to clear it. Googling it, it appears to be a common problem, but I haven't found a solution. I was tempted to return it just in case it is a faulty drive, but the fact that I only restart when I'm forced to (pc stays on 24/7 otherwise), it is a relatively 'minor' inconvenience for me.
Installation in this case was a breeze - (I already had the Sandisk Ultra Plus working at a greatly reduced speed), I connected the Crucial up to the USB port, cloned the Sandisk Drive over using Carbon Copy Cloner (free trial) and then restarted and booted to the Crucial and tested that it worked on my (downgraded) 1.6 EFI. This was successful so i shutdown, disconnected the Crucial from the USB port, rebooted to the Sandisk SSD and run the 1.7 EFI update obtained from the Apple website. I expected the drive to fail upon restarting as it was the (now) incompatible drive and this was the case, with a failed bootup.
At this point i opened up the Macbook, swapped over drives and put the Crucial M500 inside. Now the moment of truth - i was rather nervous that the Crucial may not have started up but it did...... and boy was it quick!!! Boot up time was down to 8 seconds! Shutdown was around 4 seconds and apps open like lightening!!!
I highly recommend this drive. Reliability is yet to be realised and i hope that it is because it'd be a shame if it fails, but it cost me less money than the Sandisk, and (in my system) is running at the full 3 Megabit transfer speed.
Buy one, it's the best upgrade that you can do at the moment short of buying a completely new machine - and a new Macbook Pro isn't £100 like this drive was!
